The First Baptist Church of Carthage
The Carthage Baptist Church was organized on July 16, 1881, having its roots in Peyton's Creek
Baptist Church at Monoville. A building was constructed on a lot south of the present location.
On October 16, 1921 the old wood frame church building that they had worshiped in for 50 years
was destroyed by fire. (See Sketch below) A new building was then built on a lot at the corner of
Fite Ave and Main Street that they had purchased from Newt West.

In 1948 the name was changed from Carthage Baptist Church to First Baptist Church of Carthage.
