Orange Family Cemetery
The Orange Family Cemetery is located in the woods on a hill at the old homeplace that is no longer
standing. This is east of the house at #126 Rogers Road in the Town of Gordonsville. The cemetery
was enclosed by a wire fence that is almost gone. At the bottom of hill is a walled up spring where
the family got their water. The 6 or more graves are marked with fieldstones with no writing visible.

Through family oral history and records it is known that this is the cemetery of Francis Marion
and Martha McGee Orange who were married in Smith Co TN 28 April 1853. In 1837 Francis
was deeded this 37 and one half acres by his father Yerby Orange (Born 31 Dec 1793 in VA
died 6 Jan 1853 in Butler CO. KY.). Yerby had lived on this tract of land for 30 years at the
time of conveyance. Francis was born 17th August 1822 died 9 Oct 1896 and buried in this
cemetery. His wife Martha who was born 10 Aug 1835 died May 29, 1897.
