James-Ware Cemetery
The James-Ware Cemetery is located behind the house at 154 Carthage Junction Road
between Hickman and Carthage Junction. Enclosed by a iron fence.

Listed in Smith County Tennessee Cemeteries-South of the Cumberland River page 65.

Note: William Newton James was son of John Rollins James (1810-1892) and
Martha H. Allison (1815-1871). He married Eliza Newbell on 7 Dec 1854 the
daughter of John H. Newbell (1799-1860) and Nancy W. (unk). W.N.James was
a Captain in the 44th Tennessee Confederate Infantry.

TENNESSEANS IN THE CIVIL WAR reports that on May 16, 1864 at Drewry's
Bluff, Va., Lt. Col. McEwen and Major McCarver were mortally wounded, and
command of the 25th/44th fell upon Captain William N. James. In this engagement,
he reported 95 casualties out of 250 effectives engaged.
