Hughes Cemetery

"Bible and Tombstone Inscriptions Smith County 1938"

"Located 1/4 mile left of Hwy 70 two miles from Carthage and 300 yards from point
where Caney Fork River runs into the Cumberland River. This farm is owned by daughter
of West Hughes, Mrs Lyda Green, Old Hickory Tenn.. Graveyard is in bad condition
and has no fence. There are 15 unmarked graves.

G.W.Hughes was a Confederate Soldier serving in Co B, 7th Tennessee Infantry.
Later in his life he operated one of the river ferries at Carthage. His grave is unmarked.

Also reported to be buried in this cemetery is an unknown Helmontaller child
and a baby of Wenton Floyd Green, the last known burial here - dates unknown.
