Green Hill Cemetery
The Green Hill Cemetery is located between Difficult and Pleasant Shade on Sloan
Branch/Green Hill Road on top of the high hill behind the water reservoir tank.
There are approx. 25-30 graves unmarked or marked with fieldstones with no names.
Based on length between headstone and footstone it can be determined that several
were children. According to an article in the Smith County Tennessee History,
James Green (abt. 1837-24 Dec 1888) is buried in this cemetery. His wife Nancy
(Smith) Green is also buried here. She died as a result of burns 7 Jan 1912 at
the age of 74. This cemetery was on the farm of their son, Harvey E. Green.
Also a descendant reports that his ancestor, Auzzie (Alsa) Kemp, born abt. 1788
and died 1865, a son of Solomon Kemp, is buried in this cemetery.
