I am searching for information concerning the MANESS family of Chester and Sevier counties in TN. A Daniel MANESS may have married a Sarah SWINGWOOD in Marshall County, MS. I am wondering if he or his family may have been in this part of TN before going to MS. I also wonder if Sarah wasn't of Chickasaw descent. There is a family story that a Maness married an Indian somewhere down the line. Thanks so much.

Hello, I posted an incorrect query earlier today that this should replace. I'm looking for information on Alexander Comikal Black NICHOLS married to Margaret Cunningham MONTGOMERY on 23 Jan 1845. Specifically, I'm desperately trying to figure out if Alexander C.B. NICHOLS had a son named John Alexander, b. 25 July 1854 in Knox County. I believe it might be because Alexander C.B. had a sister named Hettie Jane, and John Alexander named his oldest daughter Hettie. If anyone has any info on this, I'd love to have it. Also--any information on what the name Comikal is all about would be appreciated too. Thanks!

I have a deed from Rowan Co. North Carolina that mentions Daniel BECK and his mother Catherine, who in 1799 are residents of Sevier Co. Apparently they moved to Sevier Co. from NC. I do not find them in the TN census records. Does anyone know anything about them? I've also found these families listed by the name PECK. Here's part of the deed: Rowan Co. Deed Book 17 Deed #1266. I am searching for Elihu D. HURST (born in Tn. in 1838), probably in Sevier or Claiborne County. It is believed that his family moved to Ky after his birth and Elihu and several brothers moved to The Hurst Nation area of west Tn. in the mid-1850,s. Oral history places Elihu and several brothers in the Sixth Tennessee Federal Calvary Regiment, under command of Col. Fielding Hurst, during The War Between The States. From the muster roles of that regiment, I can confirm Elihu's service, therein. However, I do not know the names of any of his brothers. I find in the muster several young Hurst,s , any of whom may have been Elihu's brothers. My best guess is Samuel,Levi, John and others. These names were carried on to some of Elihu's children. I shall welcome any help with clues as to the parentage of Elihu and the names of his brothers.

Looking for any information of a James S. BAKER, b. ~1874, who is listed in the 1880 Sevier Co. Census living with his p.grandmother, Clarissa Bird/Fox WYATT and his sister, Rocksey BAKER. My understanding is that the children were being raised by Clarissa after their father (Clarissa's son), William Brownlow FOX moved to TX. The children's mother was apparently a BAKER and had never married (but mothered William Brownlow FOX's children), thus the children had/kept her maiden name of BAKER. Thank you in advance for 'any' thoughts or ideas of where to gain more information.
