IRELAND, PHILLIP E., SP/4—24, of Trappe, Maryland, died in Vietnam, Sunday, May 21.  Born at Easton, Maryland, PHILLIP was the son of Mrs. BESSIE COVEY IRELAND, of Trappe and the late HERBERT E. IRELAND.  He graduated from Easton High School in 1962.  PHILLIP had been awarded the Purple Heart, the Army Good Conduct Ribbons, the National Defense Ribbons, the Vietnam Service Ribbon; also the Expert Badge with the recoilless rifle and mortar and was rated a sharpshooter with the rifle.  Surviving other than his mother are his wife, Mrs. BERNICE MILLS IRELAND of Robbins, Tennessee; one daughter, MARY ANN IRELAND of Robbins, Tennessee; two sisters, Mrs. HAZEL WILLIS, Trappe, Maryland, and Mrs. FRANCES DEUBECK, of Chestertown, Maryland; three brothers, J. SAMUEL IRELAND, Trappe, Maryland and FREDERICK E. and N. LEROY IRELAND, both of Easton, Maryland.  Funeral services were held at the Newman Funeral Home, Easton, Monday afternoon, May 29, 1967, with the Rev. BUFORD E. PAINTER officiating.  Burial was in the Woodlawn Memorial Park, Easton with full military honors rendered by a detachment from Ft. George G. Meade.  (Source:  Scott County News, 9 Jun 1967, p3)


MILLS, FLORA ALPHA — 70, of Rt. 1, Helenwood, passed away in the East Tennessee Baptist Hospital in Knoxville on Monday morning, September 2, 1991.  Born in Scott County on April 12, 1921, she was the daughter of the late HENRY HAMBY and the late ARTIE TERRY HAMBY.  She was also preceded in death by three brothers: EARL, JOHNNY and ERNEST HAMBY; and one sister, MAE MILLS.   Survivors include her husband, HOMER MILLS of Rt. 1, Helenwood; three daughters: GLENDA SPEARS of Indianapolis, Ind.; BRENDA GAIL WENTZ of Huntsville; and PEGGY MILLER of Oneida; three sons: CHARLES MILLS of Robbins; ROBERT MILLS of Huntsville; and RONALD MILLS of New River community; one brother, WILLIAM HAMBY of Gaston, Ind., three sisters: CHLORA COMER and CLARA O'NEIL, both of Cape Coral, Fla.; and CORA ELROY of North Bend, Oregon; 23 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.  Many other relatives survive also.   Funeral services were conducted from the West-Murley Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, with the Rev. BATES PENNYCUFF officiating.  The Peters Family sang.  Burial followed in the Hazel Valley Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers were JACKIE MILLS, RAY MILLS, ROGER MILLS, DELMER POSEY, DOUG LLOYD and WALTER (Buddy) MARLOW.  West-Murley Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.  (Source:  Independent Herald, 5 Sep 1991, p4)
