JEFFERS, MICHAEL KEVIN - "19-year-old becomes county's third traffic fatality of the year" Funeral services were held Friday for MICHAEL KEVIN JEFFERS, 19, who died as the result of injuries sustained in a single-vehicle accident on the Buffalo Road early last Wednesday morning (April 22). JEFFERS, who became the county's third traffic fatality of the year, was a passenger in a 1994 Ford pickup truck which left the road and crashed into a tree. He died at Knoxville's UT Hospital following the 12:15 a.m. accident. The driver of the pickup, TRACY J. LAWSON, 21, of Huntsville, and another passenger, identified as BRANDON SEXTON, 23, Huntsville, were injured in the accident. Tennessee Highway Patrolman EDDIE PIERCE, who was called to the scene of the accident, said the pickup was traveling west on Buffalo Road when it failed to negotiate a curve, went over an embankment and struck a tree. The scene of the accident was just east of the Sugar Grove Road junction, Trooper PIERCE said. Trooper PIERCE was assisted in his investigation of the accident by Trooper JOHNNY McDONALD and THP Reconstructionist RON LAMAR. Charges are pending against the driver, Trooper Pierce said. JEFFERS is survived by his father, MICHAEL JEFFERS; mother, ANGELIA MAJORS; sister, JENNIFER SHARPE; and three brothers, LOGAN JEFFERS, JORDAN HARNESS and JUSTIN STRUNK, all of Straight Fork.
