I am looking for any information on John William TAYLOR born in
Murfreesboro, Rutherford Co. July 27, 1862 or 1867. He married Willie
Addie Smith January 07, 1892 in Waco, Texas. He died March 04, 1927
in Wilson, Texas and Willie died April 08, 1939 in Slaton, Texas. Any
information would be greatly appreciated, we just can't seem to find
anything on them.

My gr grandfather is Moses T. NOLEN b.1837. He married Sarah
A.OWENin 1865. He had a brother John L. and a sister Mary F. His
fatherwas Pierce G. NOLEN, who died in 1840, and his mother's name

I am looking for information on Chaney PRINCE b. ca 1823 SC and
married Aurelia "Rilly" WINSETT Oct. 22, 1845 in Williamson Co. TN.
Aurelia was the d/o Amos WINSETT and Mary PHILLIPS. She was born ca
1823. Chaney's son David PRINCE was born ca 1848. The family is
listed in the 1850 census of Rutherford Co. TN. The 1850 census also
list an Alvy PRINCE, age 1. David PRINCE left the county and moved to
Warrick Co. IN. where he married Malissa Barton in 1867. Thank you

Seeking data on the ancestors and descendants of James OLIPHANT
(1774-1849). James Oliphant lived in District #3 Harts Springs,
Rutherford County, TN. He married Mary „Polly‰ COMPTON 1
Sep 1797 in Nashville (Polly was probably the daughter of William
Compton and Charity Leiper). James and Polly Oliphant had at least
ten children, viz.: Samuel Harvy, Amelia E., Harriet N., Presley
Ward, Isaac N., Andrew J., William C., James Madison, Franklin M.,
and Martha A. Presley Ward Oliphant married Mary Leanne Fitzhugh who
had 13 children; one was James Monroe Oliphant who married Rosannah
GARTON on 4 Nov 1865 in Dickson County. James Monroe and Rosannah
Oliphant had nine children; one was Kizzie Mae Oliphant who was my

Seeking data on the BLACKMAN family - the siblings John, Bennett,
and Ann - who arrived in Davidson County, TN in the 1790s from
Sampson County, NC (considerable information is available pertaining
to their ancestors). JOHN BLACKMAN was married to Nancy M. HAYS
(second wife was Elizabeth Herring); BENNETT BLACKMAN was married to
Susanna HAYS, Nancy‚s sister (Bennett‚s second wife was Ann
CLINTON); ANN BLACKMAN was married to Charles HAYS, the brother of
the two sisters. Additionally, a brother JAMES BLACKMAN and his wife
Elizabeth Ann OATES migrated from Sampson County to Rutherford
County, TN in 1808 and settled at what was later to be known as the
BLACKMAN COMMUNITY. Bennett and Susanna Hays Blackman were my
g-g-g-g-grandparents.

Andrew Jackson Parker b. ca 1818 in Murfreesboro, TN and died 1878 in
the Yellowfever Epidemic in Rocky Springs, MS and his wife Sarah Mann
from MS(1827-1878). D.A.J. was in MS by the 1840's as evidenced by
his enrollment as a mason in two lodges. D.A.J. and Sarah's children
were William Lum Parker who married Hollie Louise Jett (both born in
Rocky Springs, MS) and Eugenia Bass Parker (also born in Rocky

I have several photos from Rutherford County of students at
Kittrell School and would be happy to email to anyone who wants them.
Also, found a wonderful portrait of the Espy family. It belonged to
my mother-in-law, Grace COLEMAN White, and the note on the photo says
"Mother's 1st cousin, the ESPY Family at Wartrace. The names on the
photo are: Cousin Fate, Cousin Sis and (their children, I think)
Ruth, Vernon, Ethel, Luther, Maud (says she is blind), and a girl
named Lester (?). Grace's mother was Fanny HAYES who married William
Rufus COLEMAN Fanny's parents were Elias HAYES and Martha HIPP HAYES.
The photo does not say whether the cousin is on Elias' side on or on
Martha's. Fanny was born in Rutherford County in 1871. I would love
to find the family and get the photo to them. Can anyone help me?

I'm looking for as much information as possible on the Leonard
family of the Leonard Community in Macon County, TN. My father's
family is originally from the area, and would love to hear from any
current family members who live there. The earliest information I
have is on a John Leonard born about 1795 in South Carolina (died
1870); married to Mary Elizabeth Leonard. I'd love any information
anyone has that goes further back than this. My grandfather was Carl
Leonard, born June 1905. He was married to Maudie Mai Davis Leonard,
born Dec. 1910. They lived most of their lives in Murfreesboro
(Rutherford County), Tenn., but did stay in touch with the "home
folks" as much as they could. They had 5 children -- Willa Dean (died
as an infant); Eugene, Louise, Evelyn and Floyd. Floyd is my father.
Would also love to know if any of the Leonards out there have musical
abilities. Just about all of us here play an instrument or sing. It
must be a family trait!

Franklin CHURCH and Caroline THOMPSON m. in Cannon Co., TN, in
1848. Listed in the Rutherford Co., TN, U.S. Census of 1850 were
Benjamin F. CHURCH (22), his wife Mary C. (19), and their son John M.
(2/12). My great grandfather, John Marion Church, was born "up around
Nashville" at some point between 1845 and 1853 [different records
give different age information]. John's death certificate lists
his father as Frank CHURCH and his mother's maiden name as [no
given name recorded] THOMPSON. I have reason to believe that both
the couples listed above (record of marriage in Cannon Co., TN, and
census record in Rutherford Co., TN) are the same people and are John

I am looking for anyone who might be familiar with the name of
Gilbert B. Harrell. He lived in Beech Grove,Tenn., which I can not
find on the map, and later in Manchestor, Tenn. He served with the
17th Tenn. Regm., Co. B. His father was John Harrell, who married
Mary Messick. His father was born in Rutherford Co. Tenn. He belonged
to the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was an Elder in the chruch,
as well as Magistrate for one term. I thought that there might be a
possiblilty that he is related to me, as my great-great-great
grandfather John Harreld, who married Sarah Hudson, also was born, we
think, and at least lived in Rutherford Co. Tenn. for some time, as
my great-great grandfather Anderson Franklin Harreld was born there
in 1824. Also, my Scotch-Irish family of Harrelds were Presbyterians.

father may have been Daniel Cameron, mother unknown. John David and
wife Elizabeth are found in 1830 census, Giles Co., also 1850 census
of Giles co with 9 children. Move of wife and family to Saline Co.,
AR - found on that census also in 1850, pinpointing their move. Any

My great grandmother Alice Almedia Campbell died around 1960. She
married James A. Harris Sr. who died around 1956. They moved to
Lafayette, TN around the 1930's. After g-grandfather Harris died,
g-grandmother Alice moved back to Murfeesboro. I understand they are
both buried in one of the graveyards there. Does anyone have any
information on them? Their children were: James A. Harris Jr., Frank
Olaf Harris ("Buck"), Samuel Houston Harris ("Hoot"), Willie Campbell

I'm trying to locate information re: Meredith Thompson AKERS, his
wife Nancy Jane THOMPSON. I'm trying to prove that Larkin Branxton
AKERS is their son. He was born 1818 Rockcastle County, KY, family

Interest in locating graves of STEPHEN WHITE (1762-1846) and son

Francis McBRIDE died before 20 Oct 1809. His will listed his sons
Isaiah, Samuel and daug Marths LEMMON who had married John LEMMON.
All of these people were from Rutherford Co.,NC. They had in 1785
over 821 A land in that Co. They had left in NC another son John
McBRIDE who had married Elizabeth KING in 1797. Desire contact with

Seeking info on a Samuel Todd b. ca 1785 m. 7-25-1810 Davidson Co

Heinrich DEMUTH and wife Anna GEISSLER DEMUTH, were original
ancestors of DAMEWOOD families of Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
Heinrich DEMUTH, his wife and children arrived from Buettenhardt,
Schauffhausen, Switzerland in 1742, and settled in Lampeter,
Lancaster, Pa. Their sons, John, Boston/Sebastian, and
Melchior/Malachi DEMUTH were baptised in Reformed church there, they
left Pa. in 1764 and received land in Frederick Co. Virg. in 1765,
sons Boston/Sebastian Demuth/Damewood (variant spelling) and
Melchior/Malachi Damewood lived in Botetourt, before settling in
Tennessee. Malachi went to Knox Co. and descendants live there today,
Boston went to Ill. to serve in Rev. then in Ky and finally ended up
in Robertson/Humphries Co. and died in Rutherford Co. in 1844. See:

married Mary HARDEMAN/HARDMAN in 1833, however some believe her name
to be Mary PURCELL. His children, William, Robert H., John J.,Mary

John W. HILL m. to Paulina CATTLES/CATTLEY was found in the 1850
Rutherford Cty. census. There chidren also listed were: Parthenia,
Margaret, Martha, John, George Washington, Andrew Jackson. He was a
farmer. They were both born in Tennessee and married in Davidson Cty

Does anyone know how to locate land grants that were awarded in
the "Tennessee lottery draw" for the War of 1812? I am trying to
locate the land grants for Berry THURMAN who lived in KY at the time
of the war but supposedly was granted land in Rutherford Co after the
war. Berry moved to Rutherford Co abt 1817 and married Willy Ann
DAVIS, daughter of Lewis DAVIS. Any suggestions on how to find these
land grants would be appreciated.

Vaughan (1868-1929). He married Ella Tennessee Maxwell. One son is

Looking for info on Isabella Francis(CHRISTMAN or CHRISTBAUM)KING.
She is my ggg-grandmother. Born May 19, 1832 near Murfreesbora,
Rutherford, TN. She died Feb 9, 1907 in Lake City, Modoc, CA. On
October 5, 1851 she married William B. King(b. Jan 19, 1829 in AL His
father's name J.T.King, mother's name Rachael) Isabella and William
had aprox. 6 children. From a recently discovered letter from my
great aunt, she stated that " . . .Isabella's father (name
unkonwn)owned a Plantation, had negro servants. Isabella was raised
by a negro mammy". Also stated in the letter that Isabella Christman
and William B. King crossed the plains in 1865, making their home in
Fairfield CA. I am very interested in how my ggg-grandfather moved
from AL to TN and I would very much like to know information on the
"Christman" plantation. As well as information on plains travel.

My DOUGLAS family lived in Beech Grove, TN. The county line went
through the center of my gggrandfather's house (Bryant Henderson
DOUGLAS(BH) b May 1847 in Beech Grove. Douglas Ridge?? in the corner
of Bedford, Cannon, Coffee and Rutherford Counties. Apparently all
the lines met there. Found parts of the family on the census in each
county even though they stayed in the same house. Most of my
searching has been on line. B. Henderson's father was Bryant DOUGLAS,
b abt 1811 in TN. His father was Thomas DOUGLAS b. 1780 in Virginia.
He married Edith THOMPSON b 1779, on February 29, 1804 in Johnston,
North Carolina according to the IGI. In studying last night, my
deductiion was Thomas and Edith DOUGLAS may be connected to
Theophilus THOMPSON of Bedford County, TN. My belief is Thomas and
Edith may have come to TN earlier from NC. Today, I uploaded my

Looking for links to WILLIAM GIBSON, my information shows that
William GIBSON and NANCY BELLER were married April 3, 1812 in
Rutherford County. They may possibly have had four children born in

I am looking for family relations to my grandfather, John Beech
Earle. He was born in the latter part of the 1880's; he died in
Athens, TX in 1973. He often spoke of visiting relatives in
Murfreesboro and also in McMinnville, TN. I know he had a cousin,
Charlie Earle, that lived in IL. I am also researching my
g-g-grandfather, Jesse W Rogers. He was born in TN about 1812. I

I am looking for information on a JAMES ELISHA WELLS who was
supposed to have been born in Rutherford County,TN in 1830 or 1837.
He later moved to Bastrop County,TX where he joined the Confedracy
from Texas and later died in the Confederates Home in Austin, TX in
1916. He was my Great-Great-Grandfather. He married a Malinda
Summers, divorced her and married a Mary Price. I am trying to tie
him to a Martin Wells who received a League of Land from the Mexican
Government in Bastrop in the year (approximate) 1828. If someone has
any information on either fellow, I would certainly appreciate some

I am looking for any information on Jefferson Earp. He was born in
1804 in Georgia He married a women named Martha (last name unknown).
They had several children, John W., James Miller, Mary K., Milley,
George W. William., Sarah, Christopher C., Martha, Thomas, and
Ruebin. They are listed in the 1850 Coffee County, Tennessee census.
They lived at tip of Coffee, Bedford, and Rutherford counties.And
have found his name on different county papers in these counties. He
was on marriage lisence as a bondsman or surety. He was married at
least one more time to a Amanda BURKE by 1860. Any information on

I am searching Richard SPENCER who was the son of Joseph SPENCER
and ANNY ROWTON. md in Charlotte co Va. Joseph SPENCER lived in Surry
co N.C. but sold out there and went to Rutherford co Tenn. Joseph
SPENCER had died in Tenn leaving Richard SPENCER as an orphan and
only heir. When Joseph Spencers father died intestate in Lawrence co
Ky c 1830. Richard SPENCER of Rutherford co Tenn claimed his share of
the estate as only heir of Joseph SPENCER. To do this he had to apply
through the Rutherford co Tenn court and an Alfred W.MARTIN signed a
statement that he had known Richard SPENCER for many years and
certified that he was the legitimate heir. I believe Alfred W. MARTIN
was the brother of Sarah MARTIN md to James SPENCER of Surry co. N.C.
both MARTINS children of OBADIAH MARTIN of Revol. James SPENCER
brother of Joseph SPENCER AND both sons of John SPENCER and unknown

I'm searching for my Ward family. They're African-American. My
father was named Roscoe Henderson Ward born May 4, 1904, he had 2
brothers John Luther Ward, and Ollie Ward. There may have been a
sister but I don't know her name. My father was not close to his
family and he died in 1954 while I was very young so I didn't get to
know anything about him. I only saw my grandmother once she was a
brown skinned woman even though my father and brothers were light
skinned. When I visited my grandmother her husband then couldn't have
been their father. They lived in Murfreesboro (Rutherford County) TN.
My grandmother's name was Ella Jeanett. I don't know anything about

1840's. I have information that says that a Thomas COLE's family
lived near "Byler Bottoms" and was buried in Mt.Pleasant Baptist

family. Her name was Frances Kasiah Harrison. She had two sisters
named Gracie Dell Harrison and Pearl Harrison. They had one brother

11. He married Elizabeth Dickson in Rutherford County. She was born
in North Carolina in 1794. At one time, they lived in the 21st
district because that is where my great, great grandfather E. M.
Cannon (Canon) was born on June 1, 1826. He was one of eight
children. The family moved to Henry County in 1832. John died January
5, 1865. Elizabeth died in September of 1874. E. M.'s date of death
is unknown. I am trying to trace the Cannon branch of my family back
to when they came to America and from where. I am trying to establish
more information about who John's parents were, where and when he and
they were born, etc.
