DECLARATION

In order to obtain the benefits of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.

State of Tennessee
Robertson County
November term of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions in and for said county.
On this 15th day of November (or December?) Eighteen hundred and thirty two personally appeared in open court before the worshipful county court in and for the County of Robertson and State of Tennessee now in session, Charles McIntosh a resident of the county of Robertson and state of Tennessee age seventy two or three years of which I have no record but Aust last and the same was burnt up in the house in which I had burnt down in which me and my family resided and I was born in Culpeper County in the State of Virginia in the year 1759 or 1760. As he being first duly sworn according to law doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed June 7th 1832.
That he entered the service of the United States under the following named officers and served in the service of the United States as hereinafter stated. The first tour? I took I volunteered for the three months but under which captains I do not now recollect. Commissioned by Major Ramsey and Col. William Moore and Genl. Rutherford. I at that time lived in Caswell County State of North Carolina which was a month or so before Corn Wallace took Charleston, which I believe was in 1780. I was marched to the Catawba River near the head of it , was in no engagement, served out my term and got a discharge which has been burnt also in my house
This second tour I served I was drafted for the term of three months in the North Carolina Militia. I was still a citizen of Caswell County in the State of North Carolina which was soon after Corn Wallace took Charles Town but what year from infirmity and old age I am unable to say. I was drafted but under what captain I do not recollect but I was under the command of Major Sharp, Col. Farmer? and Genl. Davidson. I was again marched to the Catawba lines and there we met with Corn Wallace at C… Ford across the Catawba , had an engagement with him in which we was defeated. Genl. Davidson was killed in the commencement of the battle. We was ordered to retreat which was done about five miles from the battle ground and there we had another small engagement with Tarlton and his light infantry which was near the Widow Ferrings where we was again defeated. Nothing very particular transpired in said last engagement. We were then marched to the Adkin River in the State of North Carolina but through which counties we were marched at any time I am unable to say. At the Adkin we had another engagement with Col. Tarlton and his light infantry and we was again defeated. Without anything remarkable occuring we were from there marched to Hillsborough in said state but through what counties I am unable to say and where we received a discharge having served out the three months.
The next terms I served I volunteered myself for no particular time. I was still a resident of Caswell County State of North Carolina and in which tour I served three months but what year I am from old age and infirmity of mind and body unable to say with any certainty of my own knowledge but all the tours (except the first which was just before the taking of Charlestown by Col. Tarleton,) was served one after the other immediately and probably the whole was in the same year that Charlestown was taken by Corn Wallace. but I cannot speak positively as to that. I was in my last tour under the command of Capt. Robert Parks, Lieutenant James Curry, Col. Murphy and Genl. Morgain. I was in one battle during of that tour at the Ready Fork of Haw River near Whitterills Mills. Nothing particular transpired during the battle. We were … through several parts of the state in pursuit if the tories but through what parts of the state or through what counties I am unable to say. The different months in which I volunteered myself and was drafted into the service I cannot pretend to say. I received discharges for my several tours but have unfortunately lost all them by fire. at the time as I have before stated. where my house was burnt down. I resided in Caswell County something like ten or twelve years after I left the service. I then moved to the State of Tennessee Robertson County where I have resided ever since, and where I still reside which I suppose to be something like forty years. I was born as before stated in Culpeper County State of Virginia in the year I suppose of 1759-1760. From the recollection of my age I have no record of my age at this time. but had it at one time from the record of my fathers account of my age but it was burnt up in my house. I have no recollection of any of the Continental or Militia Regiments with whom I served in any of my tours and the general circumstances of my service as well as old age and infirmity will account of. I have no positive testimony that I know of. to prove my service by in the manner and printed out but in this declaration I have a brother Nimrod McIntosh whose certificate is hereto annexed of my being in the service of the United States in the Revolution but he does not know under whom I served nor how long I was in the service. I am well acquainted with John Hutchinson Esqr., Joseph Johnson, Sam Crockett, Matthew Powell Esqr., and many others which might be named if deemed necessary in my.
He hereby relinquishes every claim whatsoever to a pension or annuity except the present one. Declares that his name is not on the pension roll of the agency of any state. I was acquainted with Genl. Morgain and Genl. Green of this land.
