Richard Chowning from James Shannon & Others April 19, 1828.
         This Indenture made this 7th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty six between the heirs of John Shannon dec’d of the County of Robertson and State of Tennessee of the one part and Richard Chowning of the county and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of three hundred and twenty Dollars to the said heirs in hand paid by the said Richard Chowning before the sealing and delivering these present the receipt and payment whereof is hereby acknowledged hath given, granted, bargained and sold conveyed and confirmed and by these present do give and grant quit Claims and set over to the said Richard Chowning all the rights to the claim and interest within said heirs has in and to the following tract or parcel of land to wit, situate, lying and being in said county of Robertson on the waters of Red River butted and bounded as follows, to wit: Beginning at a black oak on Wm. Coles line running South 340 poles to two black oaks. Thence west 78 poles to a stake. Thence north 340 poles to a stake. Thence East 28 poles to the beginning. Containing 166 acres, be the same more or less to have and to take to the said Richard Chowning his heirs and assigns forever with the said heirs doth bind themselves their heirs, executers, and administrators to warrant and forever defend the right and title of the before mentioned Land and bargain forever to the paid Richard Chowning his heirs & c to be free and clear from all encumbrances and from all the quit claims of the heirs aforesaid and their heirs from all and every person claiming through by or under them but not otherwise. In witness whereof the said heirs have hereunto set their hands and seals this day and year first above written.

Robertson County Court February Term 1828
         This Indenture with Jas. Shannon, William Finley, William Shannon, Jesse Shannon, Samuel Shannon, Henry Elmore, Hugh Shannon and Patsy Shannon to Richard Chowning was proven in open Court by the oath of Reuben Cole a subscribing witness thereto. Also the death and handwriting of Wm. Cole the other subscribing witness thereto was proven by the oath of Reuben G. Cole and ordered to be registered.
