         For and in consideration of the sum of $5000 for _nion L. L. Crocker has this day executed his promissory note due and payable on Jan'y 1, 1907 without interest till due lien retained to secure payment of same. We W. W. Payne and wife Alice Payne have bargained and sold and by these presents do transfer and convey unto L. L. Crocker his heirs and assigns a certain tract or parcel of land in the 1 district of Robertson County State of Tenn. As follows:
         Beginning at a stone in Jos Austins S W corner in V. E. Crockers line running thence S 2 degrees 233 poles to a stone Mrs. L. M. Payne's N W corner in H. E. Wrights line E 146 poles to a stone Groves corner in I. J. Sanders line thence N 3 degrees East 240 poles in a stone Mrs Ellen Crsonolm (sic Chisholm) corner in Mrs. L. M. Payne's line thence W 146 poles to the beginning containing 216 acres and 3 R being the same more or less except there is reserved ½ acres for burying ground where burying ground now is.
         To have and to hold the said tract or parcel land with the appurtenances estate title and interest thereto belonging to the said L. L. Crocker that we are lawfully seized and possessed of said land in fee simple have a good right to convey it and the same is unencumbered And we do further covenant and bind ourselves our heirs and representatives to warrant and forever defend the title to the said land to the said L. L. Crocker his heirs and assigns against __ lawful claims of all persons whomsoever witness our hands this 11 day of Aug 1906.

STATE OF TENNESSEE ROBERTSON COUNTY
         Personally appeared before me R. H. Felts a notary Public in and for said county and State the within named W. W. Payne and Alice Payne the bargainors with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledge that they executed the within instrument for the purposes therein contain and Alice Payne wife of the said W. W. Payne having appeared before me privately and apart from her husband the said Alice Payne acknowledged the execution of said instrument to have been done by her freely voluntarily and understandingly without compulsion or constraint form her said husband and for the purpose there in expressed. Witness my hand and official seal at Orlinda Tenn this 11 day of Aug 1906.
