         I, Samuel Gilbert, have this day bargained and sold, and do hereby transfer and convey to William H. Empson and his heirs forever, for the consideration of Five Hundred and twenty five Dollars 00/100 to me paid, a tract of land in the State of Tennessee, Robertson County, and District No. fifteen, and containing by estimation forty five acres, two rods, and nineteen poles, be the same more or less, and bounded as follows: Beginning in the C____ of the Creek, the South Fork of Red River, in the North boundary line of the lands formerly belong to John Gilbert, dec’d, running thence South 89 ¾ West 30 poles to a white oak, John Ellisons corner, thence South 89 ¾ East one hundred and six and ¾ poles, to a stake in Covingtons line, thence North 11 ½ West sixteen poles to a rock, thence North 38 West fifty five ½ poles to a walnut, thence North 46 East eight poles to the Curter?? Of the branch, thence with the meanders of said bank to the beginning. To have and to hold the same to the said William H. Empson his heirs and assigns forever. I do covenant with the said William Empson that I am lawfully seized of said land, have a good right to convey it, and that the same is unencumbered. I do further covenant and bind myself, my heirs and representatives to warrant and forever defend the title to the said land and every part thereof to the said William H. Empson, his heirs and assigns against the lawful claims of all persons whatever. This the 9th day of Oct 1868.

         Personally appeared before me R.H. Murphey, clerk of the County Court of said County, the within named Samuel Gilbert, the bargainor, with whom I am personally acquainted and who acknowledged that he executed the named instrument for the purposes therein contained. Witness my hand, at office, this 11th day of May 1869.
