         In the name of God amen. I John Payne of the County of Robertson and State of Tennessee, being of sound mind and memory do make and ordain this my last will and testament. First I commit my soul to God who gave it to me and my body to the grave to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors and to my worldly goods that it has pleased God to bless me with, I bestow in the following manner.
         First, I desire all my just debts be paid, then I will and bequeath to George Pool one cow and calf that is now in the possession of said Pool and a large iron kettle to the use of saidPool forever.
         Also I will and bequeath to John Chowning twenty dollars, ten of which was one cow and calf which I lent him towards paying for his land, other for paying towards the same.
         I also will and bequeath to Augustine Cook two cows and calves, one fro, one set of chain traces, one dutch oven, one pot and one copper tea kettle.
         I also will and bequeath to my well beloved son Josiah Payne, one bay mare, one feather bed and furniture, one small kettle, two pewter basons and all my working tools except 1 chisel and gouge which I low for George Pool and all my warring apparral and my saddle, several books namely, Whitfield Practice of Pity and some others I promised him and spice mortar and looking glass.
         I also will and bequeath my daughter Clary Cook by big bible and one pewter bason. I also will and bequeath to my granddaughter Cloe Cook one feather bed and furniture.
         Lastly, I do constitute and appoint my well beloved son Josiah Payne and George Pool executors of this my last will and testament, ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last. Given under my hand and seal this 9th day of October 1805.
