Jan 1924, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met in conference Sunday Jan 20, 1924 and transacted the following business. Wm. B. Jernigan appointed moderator. The chm. of pulpit committee made report for the committee, report of the committee received, committee retained and action on calling a pastor postponed. The secretary was instructed to order sufficient number of envelopes for the envelope system. Twice a month envelopes thought to be the best. $50.00 for incidentals was added to the budget for 1924. Later in the month the church met in conference and called bro Winfrey Davis as pastor for the year 1924 at a salary of $600.00, no other business conference adjourned.

Feb 1924. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met in conference on Sunday Feb third for the purpose of calling a pastor for the remainder of the year, pulpit was called to report. Chairman, Henry Roark read the report of four brethren we had communicated with. Church accepted report and discharged pulpit committee. Motion was made to vote secret ballot and carried. Bro. Davis was unanimously elected for the remainder of the year at $50.00 per month. Bro Henry Roark resigned as Treasurer of  Church but was reelected without opposition. Moved and carried that we change our conference meeting to Saturday night before third Sunday in Feb for the convenience of our pastor. We changed our meeting Sundays from 2nd & 4th to 1st and 3rd Sundays in each month. Conference meeting on Saturday night before 3rd Sunday in each month, no other business conference adjourned.

March 1924, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met in conference on Saturday night before third Sunday in March 1924. There were no committees ready to report. Miss Florrie Groves offered her resignation as junior B.Y.P.U. leader. It was accepted and Miss Ruth Hornberger was nominated and unanimously elected leader. With no other business conference adjourned.

Oct 1924. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met in conference on Saturday night before third Sunday in Oct 1924. Sermon by pastor. Minutes of previous meeting read and approved. Furnace committee not ready to make full report but was retained. Committee appointed by the board of Deacons to see some of the brethren who had been reported as being drunk, made a report four of them acknowledged to being drunk asked to be forgiven by the church promising to try and do better. Four not visited at this time but will be reported on later. One denied the charge. One side to take his name off the book claiming to be unfit for church membership. Mr. Dorris asked that his son’s name be taken off the church book being in accordance with boy’s request. Moved and passed that we accept the brothers plea for forgiveness. Feb 1925. On second Sunday in February church was called to order. Minutes of Saturday night read by Paul Payne. Vote was taken where a solid or split budget. Solid budget and was proportioned 60-40. Committee appointed by E. M. Jernigan to canvass church membership for subscription to budget. Sermon at regular hour by Rev. S. E. Loxley, dinner on the church grounds at noon. In the afternoon Ordination of Rev. S. E. Loxley for the minister work. Presbytery was composed of Bro Ewton of Springfield and Bro. Hill of Portland. Deacons of Portland, Providence, Orlinda, Mitchellville and Pleasant Hill Churches. Bro. Ewton preached the ordination sermon. Bro. Hill examined the candidate. Presbytery went into conference and recommended candidate to church for ordination. Vote was taken church voted unanimously to proceed with ordination of S. E. Loxley. Bro. Ewton lead the ordination prayer after which the laying on of hands and then the charge by Bro. Hill.

6-29-30. Church was called to order at the morning services the pulpit committee made the following report. Bro. Starks wouldn’t be able to let this church know whether could serve as pastor until next Sunday. A motion was made by E. M. Jernigan that we begin meeting Sunday July 6th and that we get Bro. 7-27-30. The church was called to order on the 4th Sunday in July to take care of the following business. The following names were recommended to the church to act as delegates in the Robt. 8-23-30. Pleasant Hill Baptist Church met in conference on Sat. night before 4th Sunday in August. Mrs. E. M. Jernigan reported that the ladies had secured proper material to fix the locks to the church so it could be locked, and that Mr. E. M. Jernigan had enough of the church funds to pay for the locks if the church was willing for this fund to go for that purpose. Mr. Hershel Moody moved that this fund be used this way and Mr. Virgil Roark seconded the motion and it was passed by vote of the church. Mr. E. M. Jernigan chairman of the pulpit committee reported that the pulpit comm. had finished their work, and asked to be dismissed and Mr. Lucky Barry seconded the motion and it was passed. No other business church adj.

Nov 1930. The board of Deacons met with the cemetery com. Sunday afternoon Nov. 23, 1930. Mr. Holmes made a motion that a com. be appointed to look after the trading of some land belonging to the church to Robert Sanders and he appointed E. M. Jernigan, Lucky Barry and Ewing Austin to serve this comm. The Deacons looked over the church roll and found 76 inactive members leaving 236 active members.

 

4th Sun Nov. Pleasant Hill church met for business session. The chairman of Cem. Comm. recommended G. W. Cook and W. B. Jernigan to fill the place of Will Cline & Clark Dorris who have moved away. It was moved and seconded that these two be added to the Cem. Comm. E. M. Jernigan reported that Robt. Sanders wanted to trade a strip of land laying between the church & the cem. to a narrow strip on land on east side of church belonging to church. A comm.. was appointed to make this

trade this com. was E. M. Jernigan, Lucky Barry, Ewing Austin. It was passed that the church adopt budget system for year 1931 and that each member pledge what they wanted to give.

9-11-31. Church was called to order at the morning service of Oct. 11, 1931. to take care of the following business. Mr. Davie Wright ask that our pastor be called for the year 1932. Rev. Floyd Starks was put before the church to see if he was wanted again or not, he was unanimously elected. Bro. Stark made a report that each church was to send 7 members to Springfield in the near future for the purpose of making plans for the every member canvass. He appointed of the Deacons and also appointed Davie Wright to select the ones he thought would go and turn their names in to Rev. Pettigrew.

3-20-32. The Pleasant Hill Church acted upon the following business. Rev. V. Floyd Stark offered his resignation as pastor the resignation was accepted to take effect May 1st 1932. Rev. Stark appointed the board of Deacons as a pulpit comm..

8-7-32. The treasurer made a report that the insurance on the church building was past due. Mr. A. T. A. Holmes made a motion to see if the people still wanted to carry the insurance or drop it, was carried that the insurance be kept. Mr. E. M. Jernigan made a motion that the money to pay the prem. be made up at this time which was $44.00 which was made up of gifts from the audience.
