I am trying to obtain information on Surrena (Rena)Shipley Smith. Itis reported she was full Cherokee, and was raised by Thomas andElizabeth Shipley. I found marriage records in Meigs Co., dated Aug.1850, to William M. Wilson, from Cherokee NC. I also found her on acensus roll at age 8, but nothing else. Her grave (stone) is atWalnut Grove in Meigs Co., which shows she died in 1900. Any and allinformation will be very much appreciated.

Samuel TUCKER age 60-70 with 2 boys 20-30, 1 f. 5-10, 1 f. 15-20, 1f.20-30 and 1 f. 50-60 was on the Rhea Co. 1830 census but no TUCKERwas on the 1840 census so I would assume they became part of MeigsCo. after 1838. I would like to locate any TUCKERS from thisfamily, and I would like to know if they are connected with a Unity,Mary "Polly", John, George and LeRoy TUCKER who were b. late 1700sand were in Roan Co. & McMinn Co. I found my GGGrandmother Nancy HARRIS and children in the 1840 RheaCo., TN census (this matching ages of all) but could not find GGGFJosiah/Joseph HARRIS. There is listed in the Court Records a JosiahHARRIS but trying to find out what happened to him as Nancy andChildren in MO by 1850 without Josiah. Nancy's maiden name probablyMOOREFIELD and she and Josiah mar in Patrick Co., VA 1824. Any helpwill be appreciated. Some say she may have been Rhea acct otherHarris families.

Seeking information on the birth and family of James SNOW, b. 28 Oct1837 in Rhea Co, TN (according to CSA Pension file in TX). I suspectthat his parents may have been John and Elizabeth SNOW. They livedin Rhea, Roane, and Meigs Co's in the 1800's. Most of the offspringof John and Elizabeth left TN for AR and TX around 1850, pursuant tothe death of their father (John SNOW [Sr]) in Meigs Co, TN on 2 Feb1845. James stayed in TN until around 1858 when he migrated toUpshur Co, TX to join his older brother Samuel SNOW. Your help isgreatly needed and appreciated.

I am looking for additional information on REVIS family in RheaCounty. I have been able to trace to a James Revis in 1848 whomustered out of McMinn Co. to fight in the Mexican War. Been researching Cherokee ancestors since 1983. Need help in findinginformation on the SHORTFEATHER/SHORT line. My great-grandmotherLAURA ELLEN SHORT married GEORGE W. MORRIS at the age of 12, she wasborn in 1872 in Olliver Springs, Tenn. Her father was SHORTFEATHERwho had a son by name of JOHN SHORT. In the family bible, it statesthat the parents of Laura were; JOHN SHORT & WAUNITA WARD. Father ofGEORGE W.MORRIS was GEORGE MORRIS,mother,MARY POPE. All people wereCherokee. I am desprete to find info on Sarah Small. Here's what I know. Shewas born May 22, 1809 in Tennessee. Supposedly her parents were fromIreland, which explains why many people believe she was born inIreland. She was orphaned at age four. She was adopted by HannahMcPherson White Carroll. Sarah married Elijah Daniel McPherson,Hannah's brother, October 8, 1826 in Rhea Co., TN, and died April 23,1897 in Carroll Co., GA. She and Elijah are buried at the Old ConcordCemetery on Spence Road in Carroll Co., GA. I have no idea who Sarah's parents were or what they died of. Did shehave any siblings? Anyone who can answer these questions pleasecontact me.

The MINICK(s) for whom I'm searching, moved on to Madison CountyArkansas by 1850 and settled in Carroll County Arkansas. John HENRY was born in North Carolina ca 1787. "Probably born inGreene County, NC that later became Tennessee." This area, GreeneCo., TN formed 1783 from Washington Co. TN which was actuallyconsidered as part of NC until 1790. John was found on a Tax list in Rhea, TN, 1808. A John Henry listedas SQUIRE.John served in the military in Newport, Tennessee, 17 October 1813.(Newport may refer to a place in Cocke County, TN or it more likelyrefers to a Military Camp in Rhea County, TN.)He married Miss Burnett? before 1817. She was most likely only abouttwelve years of age. John was listed as the head of a family on the1820 Census in White County, Tennessee. His brother George was alsolisted on that census. John was listed as the head of a family on the1830 Census in White County, Tennessee. He married Sarah (Sallie)Long in Tennessee, by 1834. His father may have been George HENRY.
