Hawkins Robert HANSLEY, Hawkins County, Tennessee, Private, North Carolina Line, $60.00 Annual Allowance $180.00 Amount Received May 29 1834 Pension Started Age 74 (1835 Pension Roll) Robert HANSLEY applied for his revolutionary pension while living in Hawkins County in 1834, declaring he had resided in the county for about forty years. He volunteered for service in Sullivan County, North Carolina, now Tennessee as a private in Captain George Maxwell's company, Colonel Isaac Shelby's regiment. He was in the battle of King's Mountain after which he went to Salisbury, North Carolina, and he continued to serve for six months. He enlisted again May 1, 1781, serving as a private in a company of Stokes County, North Carolina, militia under Captain William Cloud and Captain Jonathan Hawley. During this enlistment he went to the border of South Carolina against the Indians. This length of service was also six months. He returned to Sullivan County, and enlisted in the spring of 1782, serving under Lieutenant Fulkerson and in Captain Elijah Chisholm's company. He was engaged against the Indians; he was also in Captain John Blair's company at Campbell's Station. His service included in all eighteen months. He was pensioned as Robert Hansley but his pension application includes his name spelled HINSLEY and HENSLEY (Rev War Pension File).
