The WESTERN WEEKLY REVIEW was one of the outstanding newspapers of the antebellum era in Tennessee, published weekly in Franklin, Williamson County, middle Tennessee. It was a partisan paper, trumpeting the Whig Party.
Its earliest editor, James Hogan, published obituaries sent in to him, free of charge, after he learned how much interest such items bring. After his retirement from the paper in the early 1850s, the new editor, Don Cameron, changed this policy. He charged for full-length obituaries but would allow free brief death notices. The mentions of deaths in this newspaper then diminished considerably, all the more so as time went on.
