STERLING H. EDMUNDS died Eagleville, Tenn., Mar. 25, 1849 aged 41 years; surviving were his mother, widow and six children.

MARTHA daughter of J. J. BINGHAM died Williamson Co., Tenn., Mar. 24, 1850 in 18th year of her age.

 

March 29, 1850

ANDREW JOHNSTON, SR. died Franklin, Tenn., Mar. 22, 1850 in 86th year of his age; native of Ireland, migrated to U. S. at age of 25 years; after a few years in Kentucky he moved to Nashville, 1800 and soon afterwards to Franklin; surviving were his aged widow and three children. Presbyterian.

Reverend PORTER CLAY, brother of Hon. Henry Clay, died Camden, Ark., Feb. 16, 1849 in 71st year of his age.

 

April 12, 1850

NANCY daughter of Clement PENNINGTON died Williamson Co., Tenn., Mar. 30, 1850 in the 17th year of her age.

Mrs. MARY COLEMAN BROWN LEWIS, native of Fairfax Co., Va., died Franklin, Tenn., April 6, 1850 aged 66 years, 2 months, 17 days [born January 19, 1784]. A poem accompanied this death notice.

MARY ANN daughter of James and Mary Shannon; wife of Daniel ROBERTSON; died April 11, 1850 aged 23 years, 8 months; surviving were her widower and two children. Baptist.

G. G. BRANDON, former governor of Mississippi, died Adams Co., Miss., Mar. 28, 1850 in the 63rd year of his age.

MARY SUSAN third daughter of B. T. HOLLINS, Coffee Co., Tenn., died May 10, 1850 aged 18 years, 2 months and 8 days [born March 2, 1832].

Among several persons dead from cholera were the slaves, MORNING, BEVERLY, BILLY and HARMON (buried June 23, 1850). Nashville, Tenn.

JOHN KIRKMAN, a "sprightly boy," aged about ten years drowned in the Cumberland River, at Nashville, in mid-June 1850.

 

July 12, 1850

REBECCA wife of H. H. HORTON born Sept. 8, 1810; died near Franklin, Tenn., July 6, 1850.

JAMES PEACH, foreman, Tennessee state capitol, died of diarrhea, July 8, 1850; surviving were his widow and four children.

ALPHONSO son of John Z. WREN died Franklin, Tenn., June 27, 1850 aged about 20 years.

JOSEPHINE daughter of Hon. A. P. MAURY, dec. and Mrs. M. E. T. Maury; died June 8, 1850.

President ZACHARY TAYLOR died in Washington City [D. C.], July 9, 1850 of bilious cholera morbus.

Among the dead of cholera in Nashville recently: JAMES PETTY, G. BYERS, MALINDA (slave), WILLIAM DEAN, PAULINE COX, SARAH JOHNSON, SARAH HARNEY, GEORGE BURGAN, SUSAN HENRY, GEORGE ANDERSON and PATRICK FINEGAN (age 34).

 

July 19, 1850

PETER P. MAYFIELD died about 8 miles east of Franklin, Tenn., July 17, 1850 of cholera.

Mrs. PORTER MONTGOMERY died Franklin, Tenn., July 17, 1850 of cholera.

MARY FRANCES RUST daughter of Charles F. and Ann S. LEWIS died July 1, 1850 aged 20 months and 11 days; a parental poem accompanied this notice.

Notice: DAVID L. NEAL, formerly of Washington Co., Va., if living; his heirs, if he be deceased, would "hear something to their interest by contacting "A. M." at Morristown, Tennessee.

WILLIAM WILLIAMS, aged about 15 years, student at the Masonic University, Clarksville, Tenn., drowned in Red River "while bathing," June 25, 1850.

JOHN STEVENSON, aged 16 years, died Nashville, Tenn., July 14, 1850 of cholera.

JOHN WRIGHT died Nashville, Tenn., July 16, 1850.

ELIZABETH wife of William GARRETT, Nashville, Tenn., died July 16, 1850 aged 72 years.

Colonel MICAH TAUL, native of Maryland, died Talladega Co., Ala., June 27, 1850 in the 64th year of his age; veteran, War of 1812; Congressman from Ky.; moved to Tenn., thence to Ala. where he died.

BIOGRAPHICAL DIRECTORY OF THE AMERICAN CONGRESS, 1774-1971, Washington, D. C., 1971, page 1791:

TAUL, Micah (grandfather of Taul Bradford), a Representative from Kentucky; born in Bladensburg, Md., May 14, 1785; moved to Kentucky with his parents in 1787; attended private school; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1801 and commenced practice in Monticello, Ky.; clerk of Wayne County Courts in 1801; served as a colonel of Wayne County Volunteers in the War of 1812; elected as a Democrat to the Fourteenth Congress (March 4, 1815-March 3, 1817); declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1816; resumed the practice of law; moved to Winchester, Tenn., in 1826 and continued the practice of law; moved to Mardisville, Talladega County, Ala., in 1846 and engaged in agricultural pursuits until his death there on May 27, 1850; interment on his plantation at Mardisville.

ANN wife of Armstead ATKINSON died Franklin, Tenn., July 26, 1850 aged about 65 years.

ANN wife of Samuel S. MORTON died about 8 miles west of Franklin, July 29, 1850.

INFANT CHILD of E. T. CLAUD died Franklin, Tenn., July 29, 1850.

ROBERT HILL died Williamson Co., Tenn., July 31, 1850; "old and much esteemed."

General R. B. MASON, U. S. Army, died Jefferson Barracks, St. Louis, Mo., July 27, 1850.

Resolutions of respect in memory of JEROME TENNISON, youthful, who died recently; by fellow members of Dillahunty Division, Sons of Temperance, dated August 6, 1850.

Dr. ROBERT GLASS died Williamson Co., Tenn., Aug. 15, 1850. [Resolutions of respect in his memory published in the Aug. 23 issue of the REVIEW, by the Franklin, Tenn. physicians, dated August 17, 1850.]

General LEVIN H. COE died August 10, 1850 aged 43 years. [Levin Hudson Coe, native of Maury Co., Tenn.; served in Tenn. Senate, 1837-1841; moved to Fayette Co., Tenn., then in 1846 to Memphis, Tenn. where he died; lawyer. His tombstone in Somerville, Tenn. cemetery gives only his name, date of death and age, 44 years.]

MARY L. wife of Duncan CAMERON, died Franklin, Tenn., Aug. 23, 1850; surviving were two children, her widower, her parents and several siblings.

JABEZ OWEN died Williamson Co., Tenn., Aug. 19, 1850 of typhoid fever.

 

September 6, 1850

WILLIAM BOND died Leeper's Fork, Williamson Co., Tenn., Aug. 29, 1850 aged about 67 years.

ALEXANDER EWING died Williamson Co., Tenn., Aug. 29, 1850; a "young man."

CONSTANT HARDEMAN died Rutherford Co., Tenn., Aug. 26, 1850 aged about 72 years; his father brought the family to Tenn. in 1786 when Constant was 8 years old.

ROBERT McCLELLAN died Lincoln Co., Tenn., Aug. 15, 1850 aged about 84 years.

ANN daughter of James H. FOSTER died Nashville, Tenn., Sept. 2, 1850 aged about 19 years.

INFANT DAUGHTER of John M. TALLY died September 4, 1850.

RANSOM, slave of S. AVERALL, near Murfreesboro, Tenn., to be hanged Oct. 25, 1850 for sexual assault on Miss Ivie last May. WASHINGTON, slave of William Vaulx, was to be hanged on the same day for murder of fellow slave, JACOB, last May.

 

October 4, 1850

JAMES RUCKER, Rutherford Co., Tenn., died Sept. 27, 1850. [According to HISTORY OF THE RUCKER FAMILY by Edythe Rucker Whitley, Nashville, 1927, page 65, James Rucker was born in Amherst Co., Va., Dec. 25, 1788 and died in Rutherford Co., Sept. 27, 1850; married twice and had six children.]

MARY E. daughter of John JOHNSTON died six miles from Franklin, Tenn., Sept. 15, 1850 of consumption.

Major JOHN BOSTICK born Pittsylvania Co., Va., June 18, 1765; moved at age 15 years with family to Stokes Co., N.C.; served in Revolutionary War; first sheriff of Stokes County; served in N.C. legislature; moved to Williamson Co., Tenn., 1809. He died there, Sept. 20, 1850; had voted in every presidential election since the U.S. government had been established. [The pension application of Hudson P. Bostick, son of John Bostick, for any benefit due the latter's heirs, indicates that John Bostick had lived as a youngster in Surry Co., N.C.; moved to Williamson Co., 1808. R1040.]

 

October 18, 1850

FRANCES M. son of Lewis and Mary COSBY died Giles Co., Tenn., May 4, 1850 aged about 28 years.

WILLIAM TEMPLE, native of Williamson Co., Tenn., died Roseville, Ark., Aug. 8, 1850 in the 50th year of his age.

 

October 25, 1850

From the WEST TENNESSEE WHIG, Jackson, Tenn. "Mrs. MARY REID, an aged and infirm lady, residing in the vicinity of Denmark [Madison Co., Tenn.], while lying on a pallet before the fire, her clothes being ignited and before assistance was rendered she was so severely burnt as not to survive the injury an hour." [Tombstone in Presbyterian Cemetery, Denmark, reads: MARY wife of David REID Died Oct. 7, 1850 aged 69 yrs. 4 mos. 3 days].

NICHOLAS C. HAIL, Giles Co., Tenn., froze to death in Lawrenceburg, Tenn., about Dec. 10, 1850.
