RICHARD SWANSON son of Marcus and Amelia COOK, formerly of Franklin, Tenn., died Memphis, Tenn., Dec. 9, 1844. Their son, ROBERT, died Dec. 14, 1844 aged 7 years.

January 30, 1845 issue missing but in this issue the editor remarked that in Mrs. MARY BOYD's death notice of the previous week, she had been called the widow of Harrison Boyd when it should have read ARMSTEAD Boyd and her correct age given as in her 70th year; member of the Baptist Church.

MARY wife of the Rev. James SCOTT died Trenton, Tenn., January 16, 1845. [The compiler could find no tombstone to her memory in the Oakland Cemetery, Trenton.]

Major JOHN BYRNE died Dyer Co., Tenn., Dec. 16, 1844; sheriff of Dyer Co., Tenn.

A black man, slave, belonging to DAVID ELLIOTT, Athens, Ala., was accidentally killed when he fell from his horse and was run over by wagon wheels, circa Feb. 8, 1845.

ELIZABETH ANN wife of D. [Donald] CAMERON; daughter of Captain George Mayfield; died Feb. 18, 1845 in 27th year of her age. Presbyterian; surviving were her widower and one child.

RODERICK EDWARDS, Rutherford Co., Tenn., died Feb. 7, 1845 aged about 50 years.

Mrs. SARAH DAVIS daughter of Calvin Taylor died Feb. 7, 1845.

Mrs. SUSANNA BROWN died Williamson Co., Tenn., Feb. 23, 1845 in 68th year of her age. Baptist.

ANN ELIZA wife of Dr. Richard R. HIGHTOWER died in the residence of her father, Robert C. Foster, esq., Feb. 23, 1845; surviving were her widower and 3 children. [Her box vault tombstone in the old Franklin, Tenn. cemetery reads: In Memory of Mrs. ANN E. consort of Dr. R. R. HIGHTOWER, daughter of Robert C. and Louisa Foster Born Sept. 24th 1826. Died Feb. 23, 1845]

 

March 7, 1845

BETSEY wife of Nicholas SCALES, esq., Talladega, Ala., died Feb. 29, 1845. Born Pittsylvania Co., VA., Aug. 12, 1776; moved to Knox Co., Tenn., then Williamson Co., then in 1835 to Talladega Co., Ala. Baptist; surviving were her widower, four sons, three daughters.

Mrs. SUSANNA PARRISH "aged and estimable" died near Franklin, Tenn., Sunday, March 9, 1845. [A tombstone is the old Franklin city cemetery reads: Sacred to the memory of Mrs. JANE PARRISH Born June 4th 1761 Died March 9th 1845.]

Mrs. IVA ANN EDGAR died McMinn Co., Tenn., Mar. 12, 1845.

MARY wife of Ewen CAMERON, SR. died April 15, 1845 in 68th year of her age. Cumberland Presbyterian. [Her tombstone in the old city cemetery, Franklin reads: MARY CAMERON wife of EWEN CAMERON Departed this life April 15th 1845 aged 67 years & 26 days.]

WILLIAM WHITE died Williamson Co., Tenn., April 6, 1844 aged 76 years.

HENRY CLIFFE infant son of George and Eliza HARDING, Williamson Co., Tenn., died Apr. 6, 1845.

 

April 25, 1845

MARY ALICE daughter of Charles A. and Louisa MERRILL died Franklin, Tenn., Apr. 23, 1845 aged about 1 year.

ELIZABETH widow of R. PARRISH died April 23, 1845.

JOHN B. MURPHY, near Plum Grove, Ark., formerly merchant in Memphis and New Orleans, fell from a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, opposite the Exchange Hotel in Memphis and died "instantly" on April 19, 1845.

 

May 2, 1845

Mrs. SALLY WINNIFRED daughter of James Pugh, Williamson Co., Tenn., died Sumpter Co., Ala. April 2, 1845 aged 37 years and 4 months.

Hon. D. W. DICKINSON died in residence of Major William Maney near Franklin, Tenn., April 27, 1845; served in Tennessee legislature and U.S. Congress.

DICKINSON, David W. (nephew of William Hardy Murfree), a Representative from Tennessee; born in Franklin, Tenn., June 10, 1808; completed preparatory studies and was graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; studied law; was admitted to the bar and practiced; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-third Congress (March 4, 1833-March 3, 1835); elected as a Whig to the Twenty-eighth Congress (March 4, 1843-March 3, 1845); was unable to attend the last session of Congress on account of his failing health; died at "Grantland," his father's home, near Murfreesboro, Rutherford County, Tenn., on April 27, 1845; interment in the family burying ground on the estate.

MIRANDA wife of Captain Henry WADE died near Spring Hill, Tenn., June 3, 1845 in the 45th year of her age; surviving were her widower and 6 children.

JOSEPH son of Howard THWEATT died Williamson Co., Tenn., June 3, 1845 aged about 23 years.

JOHN A. McKINNEY, Rogersville, Tenn., died in Tazewell, Tenn., May 12, 1845; attorney and delegate to the 1834 Tennessee Constitutional Convention.

 

June 13, 1845

"ANDREW JACKSON breathed his last at the Hermitage on Sunday the 8th [of June] at 6 o'clock in the afternoon. He is represented to have retained his faculties to the end and to have died 'quietly, calmly with entire resignation' amidst the beloved members of his family and a few intimate friends who were present. . . . Yesterday . . . the body was borne to the grave [and] was placed by the side of her, whom in life he had loved so well."

 

June 20, 1845

JAMES SOUTHALL, SR. died Williamson Co., Tenn., June 14, 1845 in the 68th year of his age.

EUGENE C. oldest son of James PLUNKET died near Franklin, Tenn., June 14, 1845 aged about 10 years.

          IT appearing by affidavit that Matthew Lindsay and Virginia, his wife, Thomas Walthall and Ann E., his wife, Constantine Perkins, James O. Perkins, Daniel Perkins and Charles Perkins, defendants in the above stated cause, are not citizens of or residents in the State of Tennessee, so that the ordinary process of this court cannot be served upon them. It is ordered that publication be made for three successive weeks in the Western Weekly Review, a newspaper published in Franklin, requiring said defendants to appear at the next term of this court, to be held at the court house in the town of Franklin on the third Monday in October next, then and there to plead, answer or demur to complainant's bill, or the same will be taken for confessed and set for hearing ex parte as to them.         The bill in substance states that complainant Faulkner, recovered a judgment on the 3d of October, 1844, in the Circuit Court of Davidson county, against the defendant Joseph W. Perkins, for $435.35 besides costs of suit, and that the complainant Hadley recovered a judgment on the 18th of February 1845 in the Circuit Court of Lauderdale county, against defendants Joseph W. and John P. Perkins, for $118 besides costs; on both of which judgments executions have been issued and returned "no property found." That Col. Nicholas T. Perkins, late of the county of Williamson and State of Tennessee, departed this life intestate in the year 1843, leaving among others the said Jos. W. and Jno. P. Perkins, Virginia Lindsay, Ana E. Walthall, Constantine Perkins, James C. Perkins, Daniel Perkins and Charles Perkins, as heirs and next of kin him surviving, being at the time of his death the owner in fee of about 900 acres of land in said county of Williamson and several lots in the town of Franklin, besides personal property, which descended to said heirs and next of kin, and is now held by them as tenants in common, N. T. Perkins having been duly appointed administrator.
        The Bill prays an account of the administration of said estate and of the advancements made to the children and grand children, and that the interest of said Joseph W. and John P. Perkins, be ascertained, set apart, and sold, and the proceeds applied to the payment of complainant's said debts, with interest and costs, and for general relief, &c.

JOSEPH CARL, SR., native of New York state, died June 20, 1845; moved to Williamson Co., Tenn., 1814. Baptist. [His tombstone in Leiper's Fork cemetery, Williamson County, states that he died June 20, 1845 aged 70 years and 15 days; by this computation he was born June 5, 1775.]

ELIZABETH GRIFFITH daughter of Thomas PARKES died Franklin, Tenn., August 7, 1845 aged 3 years, 3 months and 21 days [born April 16, 1842].

PRISCILLA TENNESSEE daughter of Charles M. and Nancy SCOTT died August 1, 1845 aged 2 years, 8 months and 9 days old [born August 22, 1842].

JOHN HARTWELL son of Albert H. and Louisa A. BAILEY died Aug. 4, 1845 aged 2 years, 4 months and 24 days [born March 10, 1843].

Dr. LAWRENCE O'BRYAN died Williamson Co., Tenn., August 4, 1845 aged 59 years.

HENRY GARRETT died in residence of his son, Smith Garrett, Sept. 28, 1845 aged 91 years; veteran of the Revolutionary War.

WILLIAM COMPTON, SR. died Davidson Co., Tenn., Oct. 7, 1845 aged 77 years.

NIVISON WATKINS, Memphis newsman, died recently in 27th year of his age; native of Va.
