REVOLUTIONARY WAR VETERANS

February 8, 1833

According to the pension application (W8681) of ANN B. DUDLEY, widow of Colonel GUILFORD DUDLEY, he was born in Carolina County, Virginia, April l7, 1756; married ANN BLAND EATON, May 23, 1784.

 

June 7, 1833

According to notes appended to the pension application of SAMUEL GREER (S38769), he died May 27, 1833.

 

June 4, 1833

According to the pension application (S2460) of HENRY COOK, he was born on Thompson's Creek in Virginia, March 12, 1753.

 

May 24, 1839

The pension application (S1956) of WILLIAM HOPE shows that he was born in Bucks Co., Pennsylvania, June 28, 1761; moved with his parents to York District, S. C., 1772; made several other moves before settling in Williamson County, Tennessee in 1810.

Buried in the HALFACRE CEMETERY in Williamson County:

ELIZABETH HALFACRE daughter of JACOB HALFACRE, born January 2, 1811 and died August 3, 1835.

JACOB HALFACRE, born on the River Wrine, Germany, November 19, 1766; moved to U.S., 1770; died October 28, 1849.

ELIZABETH ALETHIA HALFACRE wife of JACOB HALFACRE born April 18, 1772 and died November 3, 1831.

No mention of ANDREW HALFACRE who died in this county, July 25, 1835.

In the book, OUR WEBB KIN OF DIXIE by William J. Webb, Oxford, N.C., 1940, page 100, are listed the burials in the old Dr. WILLIAM SMITH WEBB graveyard in Williamson County. Those pertinent to this book of abstracts:

Dr. HENRY Y. WEBB died October 9, 1835 aged 23 years, 3 months and 17 days old

Dr. WILLIAM WEBB born Dec. 11, 18l1; died January 16, 1840

[These were sons of Dr. WILLIAM S. WEBB (1776-1866) and wife, MILDRED (1780-1830).]

TAPPAN NOTE

"General" BENJAMIN SWETT TAPPAN (Feb. 25, 1799 - Mar. 1, 1866), native of Newbury, Mass., Grand Master of the Tennessee Masonic Grand Lodge, 1834 -1836, prominent Franklin merchant, moved to Vicksburg, Miss. in the 1830s where he was also a well-known businessman. Mentions of him and his family appear frequently in the REVIEW.
