A poignant outreach by JAMES BARNETT, Hillsboro, Ill., trying to establish contact with his father, Elijah Barnett, whom he and last seen in S.C. about the time of the War of 1812; older man supposed to have migrated to Kentucky or Tennessee.

Rev. ABEL PIERCE, Methodist preacher, Milton, Fla., died Oct. 29, 1847 in the 29th year of his age.

Among persons killed when steamboat boilers exploded, on the S. W. Johnson, out of Cincinnati Ohio, was REDMAN A. FAIRCHILD, December 19, 1847.

JOHN BOYD died Davidson Co., Tenn., Dec. 4, 1847 aged 83 years; native of Ireland; member of Presbyterian Church.

Rev. WILLIAM WYCHE CHRISTIAN born Mecklenburg Co., Va., April 3, 1803; married Rhoda G. Reese, July 4, 1830; licensed to preach in Methodist Church, April 12, 1844; died Dallas County, Alabama, November 5, 1847.

LOUISA JANE IRVIN daughter of Rev. R. G. and Frances Irvin died Dec. 6, 1847 aged 1 year, 2 months, 18 days old [September 9, 1846]. Middle Tennessee.

Captain DAVID E. PUTNEY, second son of Capt. Richard and Sarah N. Putney; born N.C., April 20, 1800; married Elizabeth Harris, Sept. 27, 1831; died August 29, 1847; husband and father (6 children).

Reverend JAMES SCARBOROUGH born in Virginia; moved in youth to Montgomery Co., N.C. and moved to Stewart Co., Tenn., in 1803/04 where he died December 5, 1847, aged 93 years.

MARGARET A. SENTER wife of James A. Senter; daughter of John R. and Susan W. Tull; born Williamson Co., Tenn., June 26, 1825; died Dec. 10, 1847 in same county.

HELEN A. J. LOCKETT daughter of John D. and Mary A. T. Anthony, Knoxville, Tenn.; wife of Henry C. Lockett; died Dec. 25, 1847 aged 17 years; typhoid fever; wife and mother (1 child).

SUSAN FARRAR daughter of William and Charlotte Farrar, native of Lincoln Co., Tenn., died Nov. 22, 1847, Perry Co., MO where the Farrars had moved in 1829. Buried in York Chapel graveyard.

Letter to editors of the CHRISTIAN ADVOCATE, from JOSEPH CROSS, Lexington, Kentucky, dated Dec. 25, 1847, in which he writes of his wife, Mrs. L. A. L. CROSS' death that day, aged 27 years, having died after their only two children had predeceased her. "I am utterly desolate. I am alone on earth."

William Leigh, formerly of Northampton Co., N.C. died Lowndes Co., Miss., Nov. 7, 1847; born March 15, 1801; married March 2, 1826; her husband was steward of Randolph-Macon College; the Leighs moved to Miss. in the fall of 1846 but her health deteriorated and she died; wife and mother.

JOHN H. GARRETT son of Robert Garrett, formerly of Maury Co., Tenn., died Panola Co., Miss., Dec. 9, 1847 aged 21 years, 8 months, 15 days old [March 24, 1826].

JOHN FERGUSON, native of Pennsylvania; died Mt. Olivet, Muhlenburg Co., Ky., Dec. 3, 1847 aged 62 years and 6 months old [June 1785].

ELIZABETH STEWART daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Deckerd, born Abingdon, Va., Oct. 2, 1796; married William Stewart, May 15, 1815 and moved to Rogersville, Tenn.; then to Winchester, Tenn., 1834, where she died Oct. 18, 1847; 14 children, 3 daus. and 9 sons, surviving her.

ERASMUS MOORE son of Dr. Alfred Moore, alumnus LaGrange College, Ala., died [probably December 1847].

JACKSON BRIGHT's parents were Baptists; he joined Methodist Church, 1843; died Dec. 6, 1847 in the 27th year of his age; husband and father (3 children).

ELI H. BIRKHEAD born Moore Co., N.C.; moved to west Tennessee, 1837; died McNairy Co., Tenn., Oct. 27, 1847 in the 29th year of his age; a single man.

ELIZABETH A. KIMBROUGH daughter of Daniel Baily (dec.), Logan Co., Ky.; born Jan. 12, 1827; married N. S. Kimbrough, Nov. 3, 1846; died Nov. 30, 1847.

JOHN L. MUNROE, printer, died Nashville, Tenn., Jan. 12, 1848 in the 21st year of his age; served in the First Tennessee Infantry, Mexican War; fought in the battles at Monterey and Vera Cruz, Cerro Gordo; returned home debilitated.

SUSAN RANDLE died Ouachita Co., Ark., Nov. 26, 1847 in the residence of her son-in-law, Henry Wall; born Anson Co., N.C., August 27, 1780; married Wilson Randle and moved to Montgomery Co., N.C., then to Stewart Co., Tenn. and in the fall of 1847 to Arkansas.

MARIAH CAMP daughter of Daniel and Catharine Coffman; born Ala., Jan. 7, 1813; married Byrd Camp, 1843; died Hardin Co., Tenn., Nov. 5, 1847.

ELIZABETH MOORES born in Virginia, 1807; married William H. Moores in her 19th year of age; died Nov. 8, 1847; seven children.

JAMES HASBROOK born Duchess Co., N.Y., 1794; moved to Louisville, Ky. 27 years ago; active Methodist layman; died Louisville, Jan. 16, 1848; husband and father; a tribute of respect by the Quarterly Conference, dated Jan. 18, 1848, extolling his religious steadfastness.

Dr. DUDLEY DUNN died Jan. 14, 1848 in the 67th year of his age; born Brunswick Co., Va., 1781; moved to Ga.; married and practiced medicine; moved to Lawrence Co., Ala. in 1822; later lived in Memphis, Tennessee; husband and father (3 children).

MARY BUMPASS daughter of James and Nancy Young, Bedford Co., Tenn.; died Randolph Co., Ark.; Dec. 31, 1847 aged 29 years; wife, and mother (5 children).

ELIZABETH MARSHALL born Frederick Co., Va., Nov. 7, 1779; moved with widowed mother to Mason Co., Ky., 1796; dau. of John and Winneford Kercheval; mar. William Marshall, May 5, 1805; joined Baptist Church, 1802 but joined Meth. Church, 1826; died Campbell Co., Tenn., Jan. 13, 1848.

MOSES RIDLEY GARNER son of Lewis and Louisa Garner, died Rutherford Co., Tenn., Jan. 9, 1848 aged 2 years and 4 months old [September 1845]; scarlet fever.

Rev. MACKENAW BOACHMAN, Indian Mission Conference, died Old Potowatomie Station, May 1848; a native Potowatamie Indian who married a Shawnee woman; a trapper and hunter in the Rocky Mountains; a local Methodist preacher among the Indians. "He had a peculiar gift in acquiring a knowledge of languages."

Rev. OSCAR F. CUNNINGHAM, Methodist preacher, Holston Conference, died Sullivan Co., Tenn., June 15, 1848.

LEWIS PE-SAH-HO-NUB-BE, native Choctaw Indian and a licensed Methodist preacher, died March 28, 1848 aged about 40 years; among the first of his tribe to be converted to Christianity and into the Methodist Church in 1829. Choctaw Nation.

Mrs. ALSENIA J. B. PARSONS daughter of T. W. and Mary A. Gilmer died June 15, 1848.

Rev. W. G. BOOKER born Nov. 13, 1826; licensed to preach as local Methodist preacher in 1842; son of Rev. Abram Booker (dec.); died in residence of father-in-law, Gen. Watson Hardin, Jan. 21, 1848 in the 23rd year of his age. Entered Methodist itinerant ministry in 1845.

Judge THOMAS JOPLIN born Nelson Co., Va. 1782; moved to Tenn., 1818; to MO, 1832; died Pettus Co., MO, Mar. 25, 1848.

SARAH LYNK died Sumner Co., Tenn., April 27, 1848 in 42nd year of her age. Cumberland Presbyterian.

ELIZABETH M. McCULLOCK daughter of Dr. Gabriel Nash, Lincoln Co.; wife of R. D. McCullock; died St. Clair Co., MO, April 17, 1848 aged 26 years; joined Methodist Church in 1842.

JAMES HUNTER HOWELL died Pope Co., Ark., May 18, 1848; born Grayson Co., Va., May 30, 1791; licensed to preach in Methodist Church, 1841, the same year that he moved to Arkansas.

PHEBE DICKEY wife of Judge J. D. Dickey; born Virginia, June 6, 1783; died Bates Co., MO, April 14, 1848.

MARY SMITH wife of Colonel Robert Smith born Campbell Co., Va., May 10, 1790; moved to Wilson Co., Tenn., 1803; joined Methodist Church, Dec. 1811; died Murfreesboro, Tenn., June 9, 1848.

WESLEY SUMMERFIELD ELLIS son of Rev. John W. Ellis; died Marshall Co., Miss., May 18, 1848 aged 12 years, 11 months [June 1835].

RACHEL FERGUSON born York District, S.C., 1819; moved to Madison Co., Ala., 1822; to Marshall Co., Miss., 1836, where she died April 29, 1848.

SUSAN R. LANCASTER wife of Rev. Michael Lancaster; daughter of E. Herndon, Campbell Co., Va.; born April 20, 1820; married Dec. 19, 1841; died Pendleton Co., Ky., April 25, 1848.

Rev. JOHN C. BALLEW, native of Burke Co., N.C.; married Elizabeth Christian, 1812; entered Methodist itinerant ministry, 1803; about 1828 he retired and moved to a farm in New Kent Co., Va.; moved to Tenn., 1834 and in 1839 to Livingston Co., MO where he died Jan. 15, 1848 in the 72nd year of his age.

JAMES WEATHERSPOON born Wake Co., N.C., May 5, 1801; moved to Hickman Co., Tenn., thence to Hickman Co., Ky.; married in 1830; died March 17, 1848.

MARY C. CAZE wife of James H. Caze; daughter of James and Margaret Baugh; died May 24, 1848 aged 34 years; her infant, WILLIAM DANIEL CAZE, died a few days before she died.

MARY JANE HURT daughter of Achilles and Susannah Jeffries; born Mecklenburg Co., Va. Jan. 12, 1819; married Wilson D. Hurt, June 8, 1837; joined Methodist Church, May 1842; he died Feb. 22, 1844. She died May 28, 1848; three surviving children; a daughter, Mrs. EVELINE CHEATHAM died in March 1848.

"Father" HAMPTON born Rowan Co., N.C.; married Susannah Jones; died May 25, 1848 in the 73rd year of his age; after his marriage he moved to Buncombe Co., N.C. and joined the Methodist Church, there, March 1804.
