Applied for pension 3/29/1905 from Irving College in Warren Co. States his left hip was permanently "crippled" from the injury. States he was paroled in Ga. in 1865 while in 11th Tenn. Cavalry with Dibrell and Capt. Coffee. Was born in Warren Co. on 2/3/1831. He applied for the $5 increase in pension on 7/21/1919. Joined the Cavalry in 9/1864 while detached to Middle Tenn. from the 16th Infantry. J.C. Biles vouched for him. Pension accepted. Is listed in the "Ancestor Album" of the Son's of Confederate Veterans, 1986 on page 71. There is a photo of him. Some of the information in the article is most likely in error. H Pension Widow's pension #9497 filed 6/14/1929 accepted. Her maiden name was Ada Gertrude Hill. Born 10/10/1851. She died 10/19/1950. Was living in Warren Co. He was born 2/6/1845. Married 10/25/1870. She states he enlisted in 1863 or 1864 (probably conscripted). She believed he served to the end. He died in 3/1924. Had three children. Jessie Etter stated that he enlisted prior to the Battle of Perryville and served to the end at Greensboro N.C. According to Jessie he was the cousin of R.R. Etter and helped him home from Perryville. Jessie also states that J.K.P. This is probably the Risenor Etter quoted from diary as the facts closely fit his diary entries. Pension #16035. Applied for pension on 4/13/1926 living in Viola Warren Co. Born in Warren Co. 2/23/1836. States he was shot through face, left jaw and shoulder broken. Went home on retreat from Nashville barefooted with feet frozen. States he was in prison under Gen Stoneman at Jonesboro Ga. Had two daughters and two sons. Living with son Sam in 1926. William A. Bell, R.G. Martin and J. P. Douglas vouched for him. He died 10/15/1927 and his son Stokley Etter of Morrison Tenn, returned his pension check. His cousin J.K.P. Etter carried him home from Perryville. Jessie C. Etter (dob:12/1853) was his brother. Says he was captured at Spring Hill on Hood's retreat in 1864 and held prisoner until the end of the war. Had a wife and four children. His wife, Susan filed for a widow's pension #2108 on 10/6/1908 it was accepted. She was living in Smith Co. Her maiden name was Amonette. She was born 10/14/1842 in Putnam Co. Married in her father's home in Putnam Co. on 1/23/1860. He died in Smith Co. on 8/14/1908. Putnam County history lists a Thomas Jefferson Evans as being born 4/28/1829 and being killed 4/1862 near McMinnville (Putnam probably has the wrong year). Son of Obediah and Sarah Draper Evans. Married Margaret Ellen Shanks who was the daughter of Simon and Margaret (Peggy) Maddux Shanks. Mrs. B.K. Mitchell of Sparta Tenn. Was his daughter. Buried in the Old Zion Cemetery in White County. Born 2/26/1841, died 6/13/1912. His second wife Lavina Trigg Landsen and his first wife, Jennie Landsen are also buried there. He mentions being wounded at Jonesboro Ga. by an exploding bombshell, having injured his feet marching barefoot and having "Bloody Piles". States he served to the end and was paroled at Augusta Ga. Had a wife and 4 children. D.B. Worley vouched for him and stated that they came home from the war together from Augusta. (both apparently in the hospital together). Widow's pension #5318 filed 3/13/1914 accepted (Elizabeth Fisher). Living in DeKalb Co. she was 74 years old and born in White Co. in 1839. He died 12/1/1913 in DeKalb Co. She states 6 children. Married 10/11/1866.
