Obituary

EDDIE WADE LONGSTREET, SR., was born April 26, 1916 in Crawford, Mississippi to Fred and Elnora Longstreet. Three sons were born to this union (Fred, Eddie and O. C.).

The Longstreets moved from Crawford to Jackson, Tennessee. EDDIE was educated in the public schools of Jackson. He professed faith in Christ at an very early age and joined Wesley Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Cora W. Moore, March 18, 1937. The union was blessed with eight children; two, Donald and Alicia preceded him in death.

Seeking employment, he moved his family to Muncie, Indiana in 1943 and to Chicago, Illinois in 1944. This same year he was hired by the R. R. Donnelly Printing Company. He remained in their employment until his retirement in 1983.

He married Ida R. Jackson in December of 1970.

EDDIE united with the Ward Memorial Baptist Church and was faithful in attendance until poor health made it impossible to attend. He was a devout bible student and an avid conversationalist. Nothing pleased him more than a lively biblical debate or a chance to give his personal testimony. One could not speak with him more then a few minutes without being told of his total commitment to Christ and his faith in the word.

EDDIE WADE LONGSTREET, SR., departed this life at 2:10 a.m. March 22, 1985. He leaves to mourn, a devoted wife; six children: Ida Cross, Eddie, Jr. (Ellen), Sandra Lewis, Michael, Irving Dennis (Renee) and Helen; one brother, Fred Bragg Longstreet; five grandchildren: Caryn Cross, Pamela, Kelly and Lillian Longstreet, Sharese and Osborne (Ronald), one greatgrandchild, Celia Osborne; two nieces, Mozelle Longstreet and Hazell Bond, a host of other relatives and friends.
