BEECH GROVE C.M.E. CHURCH CEMETERY

Located about .8 mile from Pinson, Tennessee off Ozier Road. The church and cemetery are about .2 mile north of Ozier Road.

On August 3, 1858 Colonel Solomon Cooper (1801-1884), a Methodist preacher

(Page 44)

and farmer, donated to the Methodist authorities a 4 acre tract for establishment of a church called Cooper's Chapel. (Madison County Deed Book 20, page 795; registered October 16, 1858) Soon after the Civil War, Colonel Cooper transferred the property to the AME Church but in a few years the CME took it over and due to large number of beech trees in the area, the church was named after that tree. The first church erected at this location was built in 1871.

A single unmarked grave located to the east of the church:

CHARLIE THOMAS died November 14, 1985 aged 79 years

IRENE (Collier) PERSON, funeral home marker, no date; she died about 1989
