Date Unknown, Probably Early June 1959

            Services for J. L. Brooks, widely-known citizen of Henderson County, were Thursday at Parker Chapel All Saints Church with Rev. J. H. Hordison officiating. Burial in the Lexington Cemetery with Parham Funeral Home in charge. [His tombstone lists death date as May 19, 1959.]

            Mr. Brooks had been ill several months. He was a Mason and Eastern Star. He leaves an uncle, Thomas King and many cousins.

            The regular meeting of the St. Paul Baptist Church Missionary Society was at the church Friday. Mrs. Ora Cooper, chairman, presided over the meeting. Devotion was by Mrs. Etta Christian and topic leader was Mrs.. Mae L. Johnson.

            Mrs. Caroline Smith has undergone surgery at Memphis Hospital and her condition is satisfactory.

            Addie Mae Massey, the daughter of Mrs. Willie Massey, has undergone surgery at Lexington-Henderson County Hospital and is well on the road to recovery.

            Willie and James Lee. sons of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lee of the Pleasant Hill Community, are two of the 32 seniors who received their bachelors of science degree at Lane College, Jackson, on May 25.

            Congratulation! The ministers of Lexington and Parsons have organized a Ministerial Alliance.

            Youth Day service at the St. Paul Baptist Church are Sunday at 11:30 p.m.

 

July 9, 1959

            Services for Mrs. Plura Doyle were Friday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. L. R. Swinney officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Parham Funeral Home in charge.

          Mrs. Doyle, who had been ill for several years, died Tuesday night at Jackson General Hospital. She leaves her husband, Vird Doyle; a daughter, Mrs. Zetta Lee William; two sons, Leon Doyle and Dickey Doyle; four sisters, Mrs. Ramell Wright, Mrs. Dixie Mae McClerking, Mrs. Earline Westbrook, all of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. Jerline Dixon of Chicago; three brothers, Ervin Johnson of Memphis, William B. Johnson and Charles Johnson; a granddaughter, Mrs. Bobbie Nell Bowman.

            Mr. and Mrs. Tom Witherspoon attended the services of their sister, Mrs. Lena Bell Walters, at St. James Methodist Church in Clifton. Among those from Lexington attending were Mrs. Pauline Wess, Miss Augusta Witherspoon, Mrs. Mary J. Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Esau Campbell, Mrs. Mae L. Johnson, Mrs. Pearlie Yarbro and I. D. Montague.

            Services for Lem Parker, retired farmer of the Pleasant Hill community, were Tuesday at Timberlake Grove Baptist church with Rev. P. E. Coleman officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with Stephenson and Shaw Funeral Home in charge. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary Parker; his mother, Mrs. Rebecca Wilson; two daughters, Mrs. Ramell Parker and Mrs. Velma Parker, all of Salina, Kans.; three sisters, Mrs. Ervin Timberlake, Mrs. Lila Neely, Mrs. Grace Parker of Huntingdon; four brothers, Hobert, George, Genie and Ollie Parker.

            The Rev. J. L. Burkley, minister of the St. Paul Baptist Church filled his regular appointment Sunday morning using for his subject "Heaven and Hell."

            The Vacation Bible School of the St. Paul Baptist Church was a great success. A picnic was given Friday by the Sunday School and choirs of the church.

            Gloria Harmon has returned after spending her vacation with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Harmon and aunt, Mrs. Hattie Parker of Peoria, Ill.

            Judith Ann, Dianne and Charolene Johnson have returned from Chicago and reported having a wonderful time as guests of Mrs. Donnie Dixon and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Dixon.

            Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Robison of Bristol are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Kennedy.

            Mr. and Mrs. Maxell Watson of Benton Harbor, Mich., are the guests of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Algie Watson, and Mrs. Lue Pitts.

            Mrs. Earline Bennett and family of Indianapolis are visiting their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Teague.

            Miss Mary Lou Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson, became the bride of Adell Teague, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Teague, on July 20. The Rev. Edwin E. Deusner performed the ceremony.

            The annual tea given by the St. Paul Baptist Senior and Young People's Choir on the lawn of Mr. and Mrs. Miller Sherley on Spring Street Sunday evening was a great success. Mrs. Juanette Beasley had charge of the program. Biblical prizes going to Bernell White, Christine Johnson, Mrs. Odeesa Westbrook and Mrs. Mae Johnson. Sandwiches, tea and cookies were served.

            Mrs. Elizabeth Buck of Old Decaturville Road gave a shower Saturday evening in honor the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Adell Teague.

            The New Hope Baptist Church Jackson, Pleasant Hill Baptis Church Lexington and the local churches of the town were present at the Fellowship Day a the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Sunday. The Rev. L. R. Swinney guest minister, did the preaching.

            A delicious dinner was served in the afternoon. The Rev. C. H Smith, minister and members of the church express their thanks and appreciation to everyone for their cooperative spirit.

            The revival at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church dosed Friday night with Rev. A. H. Rice of Memphis doing some wonderful preaching. Rev. L. R. Swinney is minister.

            Mrs. Winnie William of Chicago made a quick business trip here Sunday night and returned Tuesday night.

            Rev. Will Hart of Cairo spent several days here visiting relatives and friends.

            Howard Douglas Jr. of San Francisco has completed four years in the Navy is here visiting with his mother, Mrs. Ella Mae Douglas.

            Andy Johnson spent Saturday in Memphis with his son, Ervie Johnson

            Mr. and Mrs. William B. Johnson and children were in Memphis Sunday and brought home their father, Andy Johnson.

            Rev. L. C. Teague, minister of the Key's Chapel M.E. Church, filled his pulpit Sunday morning and doing some wonderful preaching, using for his theme "I Will Arise and Go to Father."

            The Community Beautification Club met in the home of Mrs. Lue Etta Howard Friday night. Mrs. Anna Mae Cathey presided over the meeting. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess.

            Rev J. L. Burkley, minister of the St Paul Church performed a very impressive baptism ceremony at G___ Pond. Filling his pulpit at 11:30 and preaching on the subject "Bring Your Tithing," and reading the Church Covenant. Rev. J. C. Cleaves was the visiting minister.

            Mr. and Mrs. Willie T.(?) Cat___ and granddaughter, Gloria and Kent Hunter, of Dayton, Ohio, visited relatives and friends during the week.

            Congratulations! Miss Ruby Jewell Carver, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Carver, on her recent marriage to Priest Ellis, Jr.

            Congratulations! Miss Josephine Thomas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Troy Thomas, was married to Robert Smith of Henderson on Saturday at St. Paul Baptist Church. Rev. J. L. Burkley performed the ceremony.

            Congratulations! Waymon Caver, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Carver on receiving his bachelor of arts degree from Lane College, Jackson Aug. 14.

            Mrs. Eula Mae William is convalescing in the home of her mother, Mrs. Maggie Hillya___ after undergoing surgery Jackson General Hospital.

            D. C. Perry of Memphis has been transferred to work here by the L & N H R.

            G. W. Beal, a patient in Conger Hospital, has improved.

            Congratulations! Mr. and Mrs. William Ivy Thomas on the arrival of a new baby girl born. Aug. 28 at Conger Hospital.

            A large crowd from Lexington and surrounding area attended the annual barbecue Saturday at Jacks Creek.

            Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Pitts and family of Benton Harbor, Mich., spent several days here visiting relatives and friends.

            Rev. J. L. Burkley, minister of the St. Paul Baptist Church, is attending the National Baptist Convention, Inc., in Los Angeles. During his absence Sunday, S. W. Beasley, who is versatile, had charge of the church services and did a wonderful job.

            Revival is now in progress at the Lewis Chapel AME Church. Presiding Elder G. C. Jenkins will do the preaching, assisted by the minister, Rev. M. M. Cole.

 

September 17, 1959

            The revival at Lewis Chapel AME Church closed Friday night with presiding Elder G. C. Jenkins of Clarksville who is a great speaker doing some wonderful preaching. The minister, Rev. M. M. Cole, and members express their thanks and appreciation to everyone for the fine spirit of cooperation.

            Add Westbrook Jr. of Denver, Colo., is visiting his mother, Mrs. Odessa Westbrook.

            A surprise wedding occurred Saturday night. The couple were Murray Flake and Miss Lena Easley. They were happily married in the bride's sister's home, Mrs. Frances Massey. Presiding Elder G. C. Jenkins performed the ceremony in the presence of several friends. Congratulations and best wishes to them.

            Jim White entered Lexington-Henderson County Hospital Sunday morning for a checkup and rest.

            Mrs. Alberta Douglas was a patient at Lexington-Henderson County Hospital for several days and has improved and will be home during the week.

            Miss Dimple Hendrix of Hazel, Ky., visited Mrs. Mary J. Wadley over the weekend.

            Services for Pfc. Louis C. Halton were Thursday at Montgomery High School with Rev. D. B. Simmons officiating. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery with Pafford Funeral Home in charge.

            Pfc. Halton died Saturday at Washington Hospital after an illness of several months. He was 25. He was in the Army. [His tombstone lists his death on September 26, 1959]

            He was a member of the Key's Chapel M.E. Church. He leaves his mother, Mrs. Mary Halton; four brothers, Joseph Halton, Richard Halton, Thomas Halton, all of Lexington and AA-2C Herron Halton of Detroit; four sisters, Miss Lonnie Mae Halton of Memphis, Mrs. Edna Facen of Detroit, Miss Ruby Sue Halton of Nashville and Bettie Halton of Lexington and his grandmother, Mrs. Eliza Halton.

          Rev. J. L. Burkley filled his regular appointment at the St. Paul Baptist Church Sunday and used for his theme "You Should Love Everybody." In the afternoon the St. Paul Baptist Church worshipped with the Key's M.E. Church with the Rev. J. L. Burkley doing some wonderful preaching and used for his subject "God is Enough."

            The St. Paul Baptist Church Missionary Society met Friday in the home of Mrs. Jessie B. Trice with Mrs. Elsie Johnson presided over the meeting. Devotional leader Mrs. Mae L. Johnson, topic leader Mrs. Zetta Lee Williams.

            Henry Kizer is a patient at Lexington-Henderson Co. Hospital.

            Mr. and Mrs. Edward Kirby Jr. and Walter Jean Watson of Chicago have returned after visiting a week with their mother, Mrs. Anna Lee Kirby.

            Mrs. Lillie B. Hunt, an assistant operator of the Georgia Beauty Shop, attended a beautician meeting in Columbia this week.

            Larry Jackson is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jackson of Chicago during the harvesting season.

 

October 15, 1959

            Services for Levi Hillyard, widely-known and respected citizen of Henderson County, were Sunday at Key's Chapel M.E. Church with Rev. L. W. Redmond officiating. Burial was in Cathey Cemetery with Cunningham Funeral Home in charge. Mr. Hillyard died Thursday evening in his home on Reeves Street. He had been confined to his bed for several years. He was 82. He was a steward in the Key's Chapel M.E. Church. He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Georgia Swift of Detroit and Miss Exell Hillyard of Lexington; and three nieces and three nephews.

            Johnny Edwards of Chicago spent several days with his sister, Mrs. Bland Robinson.

            Mrs. Winnie William of Chicago visited with Mrs. Eula McHaney during the week.

            Mrs. Mary Louise Kizer of New York is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Logan Kizer.

            Visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Prentice Wadley Sunday were Mrs. Garlland Wadley of Nashville, Lem Jones of Paducah and Prentice Ray Wadley of Peoria.

            The Henderson County Colored Fair closed Saturday night with a beautiful arrangement of different exhibits on display in the physical building. The sweepstake prize of $10 lamp from Thomas Furniture Store going to the A. J. Hamilton family.

 

October 22, 1959

            The Community Beautification Club met in the home of Mrs. Addle Mae Clay on Friday night. Mrs. Elsie Johnson was devotional leader and Mrs. Annie Mae Cathey presided over the meeting. A delicious plate was served by the hostess and assisted by Mrs. Alice Buck.

            Mrs. Linia Boswell is a patient at Lexington-Henderson Co. Hospital where she underwent surgery.

            Mrs. Mary A. Perry of Alamo visited in the home of Mrs. Ora Cooper and her sister, Mrs. Mildred Small Saturday night.

            Congratulations! Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Lee Cooper on the arrival of a baby boy.

            Congratulations! Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Mackey are the proud parents of a baby girl.

            Rev. J. L. Burkley filled his regular appointment at the St. Paul Baptist Church Sunday and preached forcibly on the subject "Trust in the Lord."

            Visitors in the home of Mrs. Ora Cooper Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Willie Smith, Mrs. Laura Burkley of Memphis and Rev. T. P. Montgomery of Jackson.

            Mrs. Eddie Mae Wilson of Chicago has returned. Her sister, Mrs. Catherine Ross, accompanied her.

 

October 29, 1959

            Mrs. Dora Pearson of Memphis visited her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Young, during the week.

            The Home Circle of the St. Paul Baptist Church met in the home of Mrs. Jessie B. Trice Monday night. The writer, chairman, presided over the meeting and devotional leader, and Mrs. Juanette Beasley, topic leader. The hostess served a delicious refreshment.

            The Parker Chapel Baptist Church of Clarksburg observed choir day Sunday. Choirs from Lexington and surrounding areas were present and doing some wonderful singing.

            Mrs. Lucille Kizer is visiting her children in Joliet and Chicago, Ill.

            The Beech Spring Baptist Choir of Jacks Creek was present at the appreciation program at St. Paul Baptist Church Sunday night. The choir doing some wonderful singing. Mrs. Vashti Cawthon of Henderson was guest speaker, Mrs. Novella Ross had charge of the program.

            Mrs. Georgia L. Taylor was rushed to Jackson General Hospital Friday after being stricken with paralysis. Her condition is very serious.

 

November 5, 1959

            Mrs. Addle Harmon and Mrs. Jessie B. Trice were in Jackson Friday for the meeting of the Royal Ladies Better Improvement Club. Mrs. Laveria W. Flowers accompanied them.

            Mrs. Linia Boswell is convalescing in the home of hex daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Parker, after undergoing surgery at Lexington-Henderson Co. Hospital.

            Henry Kizer has undergone surgery at Jackson General Hospital.

            Priest Howard is back home from a Nashville Hospital after undergoing surgery and is showing improvements.

            Mrs. Georgia L. Taylor has been carried to a Memphis hospital and her condition is critical.

            Many have reported the deep friendship of kindness and good deeds that was shown to them by the late Mrs. Edith Dodd. Their prayers and hearts go out to the family in their sadness.

            The Rev. J. L. Burkley filled his regular appointment al the St. Paul Baptist Church Sunday morning and used for his subject "The Age between The Ages."

            Mrs. Catherine Ross and Larry Jackson have returned from Chicago, after spending several weeks with Mrs. Eddie Mae Wilson and Mrs. Willie Sue Jackson.

            Our hearts were saddened to hear of the death of Mrs. Leona Shute of Nashville, the mother of Mrs. Ollie Lue Pearson.

            Mr.. and Mrs. Paul Albert Wadley of Peoria, Ill., were the weekend guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Prentice Wadley.

            Mrs. Virgie Mae Dickerson of Indianapolis, Ind., visited Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster Flake during the weekend.

            The Lewis Chapel A.M.E. Church observed Appreciation Week in honor of their minister the Rev. M. M. Cole. Local churches from surrounduig areas were present and help to make the occasion a success. The minister and members express their thanks and appreciation to everyone for the fine spirit of fellowship.

            Congratulations! Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Edward Timberlake on the arrival of twin boys born Nov. 1 at Lexington-Henderson Co. Hospital.

            Those attending the funeral of Mrs. Levanna Bumpus of Clifton last Monday were Mrs. Lula Pitts, Mrs. Elsie Johnson, Mrs. Lena Belle Miller, daughter, Patty, Mrs. Bertha Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Esaw Campbell, Mrs. J. C. Cleaves and Mrs. Carrie Carver.

            Mrs. Lydia Broyles of Savannah spent Thursday and Friday night with Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Miller and family. She attended the meeting of the Church of God in Christ.

            Leo Jackson of Chicago, Ill., spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. Dorthy Kizer and son, Larry Jackson.

            Mrs. Donnie Dixon has returned to Chicago after spending several months with her daughter, Mrs. Dorthy Johnson.

            Mrs. Georgia Johnson was married to Robert Lee Hodge Thursday night in her home on Madison in a ceremont performed by the Rev. J. C. Cleaves. Congratulations and best wishes to them.

            The Sarah Diggs circle of the S. Paul Baptist Church met with Mrs. Alice Buck Friday and Mrs. Lorene Harmon presided over the meeting. Devotional leader was Mrs. Etta Christian, topic leader was Mrs. Mae L. Johnson. A delicious plate was served by the hostess.

            Mrs. Blondell Stanford and Mrs. Elsie Johnson were hostesses to the Community Beautification Club Friday night. Mrs. Annie Mae Cathey presided over the meeting. Mrs. Lue Etta Howard and Betty Ann Wess were the devotional leaders. The hostesses served a delicious plate.

            Teachers attending the meeting of the WETC at Lane College in Jackson Friday were Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Robinson, Mr. and Mrs. S. W. Beasley, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Pearson, Mr. and Mrs. James William, Mrs. Eula Mae Kennedy, Mrs. Mary J. Wadley, Mrs. Nettie Mae White, Mrs. Willie B. Hillyard, Mrs. Virginia Douglas, Mrs. Belinda  

Watkins, Mrs. Laveria W. Flowers, Miss Helen McCullough, George Beal and Odell Parker. Dr. Stephens Wright, president of Fisk University, Nashville, an eloquent speaker, gave a wonderful address during the evening meeting.

            Mrs. Odessa Westbrook has returned from Denver, Col., after spending several weeks with her son, Add Westbrook Jr.

            Rev. J. L. Burkley filled his regular appointment at the St. Paul Baptist Church Sunday morning and used for his subject "Let Us Hold On". William Morrison of Memphis accompanied him.

            Fred Young was carried to Conger Hospital Sunday, suffering from ulcers.

            Jim Kizer is a patient at Lexington-Henderson County Hospital.

            Mrs. Catherine Ross and son, Lander Kirby, spent the weekend in Nashville with Mrs. Virginia Lee Spicer.

            American Education Week was observed at Montgomery School. A. very unique program was taped and broadcast over station WDXL. Mrs. Ollie S. Pearson, director of the music, Mrs. Ruth William and Mrs. Juanette Beasley, directress of program.

 

December 3, 1959

            Pfc. C. H. Carver of the armed forces is visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Carver before going overseas.

            Mrs. Jessie B. Trice spent the holidays in Memphis with her niece, Mrs. Ruby Lee Beady.

            Guy Young was called to Cairo, Ill., Wednesday because of the death of his son, Howard Young, who was killed in a car accident.

            John Edward Kizer of Nashville spent the weekend with his grandmother, Mrs. Anna Lee Kirby.

            Visitors in the red Young home Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Claude Howard of Martin.

            Elmer Pinkie Parker is a patient at Lexington-Henderson Co. Hospital.

            Fred Young remains in a serious condition.

            Appreciation Week will be observed at the St. Paul Baptist Church December 1-6. Local churches from surrounding areas will render services. The public is invited.

 

December 10, 1959

            Willie H. Lee flew to Pittsburgh, Penn., during the Thanksgiving holidays to visit his brother, James Lee, who is a student at the University of Penn.

            Elmer Parker is at home from Lexington-Henderson Co. Hospital and is showing improvement.

            Howard Carver, who has been a patient at Nashville VA Hospital has returned.

            Mrs. Nell A. Kizer is back home from Lexington-Henderson Co. Hospital and has somewhat improved.

            Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Kizer and family were in Cairo, Ill., Friday for the funeral services of Mrs. Kizer's brother, Howard Young.

            The Appreciation Week at St. Paul Baptist Church was a great success. The Rev. W. M. Monroe of Jackson was guest speaker and delivered a very timely message using for his subject "Where is the Nine?" The choir, under the direction of Mrs. Ollie S. Pearson, did some wonderful singing. Mrs. Lorene Harmon was chairman of the program.

            Women Day will be observed at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist church Sunday at 3 p.m. Mrs. C. H. Smith of Jackson will be guest speaker. Mrs. Eula Mae Kennedy is general chairman and Mrs. Georgia Mae Cathey, co-chairman.

            The minister, Rev. J. L. Burkley, and members express their thanks and appreciation for the fine cooperative spirit, during the Appreciation Week at the St. Paul Baptist Church.

 

December 17, 1959

            Services for Mrs. Mandy Massey, widely-known citizen of Henderson County, were Sunday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. W. M. Monroe officiating. Burial was in the Lexington Cemetery with Cunningham and Grover Funeral Home in charge.

            Mrs. Massey, who was 93, died Monday night at her home on Derryberry St. She had been ill for several years. She was a Baptist.

            She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Ida Hall of Memphis, Miss Alphia Massey of Lexington; two sons, Reuben Massey and Leaden Tuna Massey both of Peoria, Ill; a sister, Mrs. Nina McCraw of Lexington; a brother, Harrison Thompson of Lorrane, Ohio; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

            Congratulation! Mr. and Mrs. Luke Carver are the parents of a baby girl born Dec. 5 at Lexington-Henderson Co. Hospital.

            Visitors of Mrs. Ora Cooper during the week were Mrs. Parlie Yarbro and Mrs. Lillie Harmon.

            Women Day was observed at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Sunday. Mrs. C. H. Smith of Jackson, a forceful and timely speaker, gave the address using for her theme "Faith".

            Congratulations! Miss Arnell Carver, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Carver was married Wednesday to Halbert Campbell, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Esaw Campbell.

            The Community Beautification Club met Friday night in the beautiful home of Mrs. Annie Mae Cathey. Mrs. Ora Cooper, president, conducted the meeting. At the close Christmas presents were exchanged. A delicious supper was served by the members of the club.

            Mrs. Elva Sherley has returned home after spending two weeks in Washington as guest of her daughter, Miss Nell Sherley.

            Mrs. Carolyn Tate of Memphis is here because of the illness of her mother, Mrs. Johnnie Lee Flake.

            Mrs. Frances Dickerson who has been a patient at Jackson General Hospital has returned home.

            Congratulations! Mrs. Augusta Allen Hardy has been conferred her Master of Education from A. and I. State University in Nashville.

            The Montgomery School float and band look great in the parade Friday night. Thanks to parents, teachers, band instructor and everyone who made it possible for a job well done.

            Mrs. Ora Cooper entertained the members of the Community Beautification Club in her home Friday night, with Mrs. Levie Johnson as co-hostess. Mrs. Elsie Johnson presided over the meeting. Mrs. Annie Mae Cathey had charge of the program. A delicious plate was served by the hostess at the close of the meeting.

            Mr. and Mrs. Boyd Beady and family of Memphis visited in. the home of their aunt, Mrs. Jessie B. Trice on last Sunday.

            John L. White is in Chicago because of the illness of his mother, Mrs. Bernice Crutchfield.

            Mr. and Mrs. Robert William and family, Mr. and Mrs. James Shells and sister of Memphis visited in the home of Mrs. Odessa Westbrook Sunday.

            Visitors of Mrs. Ora Cooper Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Green and family, Mrs. Bertha Bridgeman, Mrs. Amanda Farr and family of Jackson.

            Services for Mrs. Mandy White were Sunday at Mt. Tabor M.E. Church with Rev. L. C. Teague officiating. Burial was in Cathey Cemetery with Parham Funeral Home in charge. She was 57. She leaves two daughters, Mrs. Crillar Buckly, Mrs. Nettie Mae White; two sons, Harvey White and Berry White, 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

            Youth Day was observed at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Sunday with the Macedonia Baptist Church of Jackson worshipping in the evening service.

            A speedy recovery is wished for the young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John B. Johnson, who has polio.

            A large crowd from Lexington and surrounding areas attended the Tennessee. River Association at Clifton Sunday. A wonderful time was reported.

            Add Westbrook Jr. of Denver Colo. has returned. His mother, Mrs. Odessa Westbrook, accompanied him for a month's visit.

            Mrs. Annie Mae Dixon of Chicago and grandchildren, Von, Billy and Fay of Anderson, have returned after visiting a week with their mother, Mrs. Addie Harmon.

            Mrs. Addie Harmon, Mrs. Ora Cooper and Mrs. Jessie B. Trice were in Jackson Friday for the meeting of the Royal Ladies Better Improvement Club. Mrs. Laveria W. Flowers and Mrs. Lucille Kizer accompanied them.
