MOORE CEMETERY

Moore Cemetery is located on Hemby Lane off Perryville Exchange Road north of Darden. It is well maintained. Though now associated with the Moore family, it seems more likely to have been a community cemetery rather than a family cemetery. There are many, many unmarked graves throughout the cemetery. The cemetery may contain black burials in the southeast corner.

Moore Cemetery ceased to be used regularly about 1910, when the cemetery may have been near full. By the 1920s the nearby community was using McCay Cemetery (now known as Pleasant Grove Cemetery). In Moore Cemetery there are no identified burials from the 1920s, five from the 1930s, one from the 1950s, and two from the 2000s.

David Donahue recorded this cemetery May 3, 1992 and updated it October 2003.

Mrs. Bob Lewis recorded this cemetery circa 1975. Her record appears in Henderson County, Tennessee Cemetery Inscriptions (R. H. Harris, Memphis, 1976), Vol. III, pp. 595-597. This earlier work is referred to as "Lewis" in the notes below.
