Antioch Cemetery, Henderson County, Tennessee ANTIOCH CEMETERY

This is a large and relatively old cemetery (1830s) near Lexington
overlooking Beech Lake which is accessible from State Highway 104. The cemetery
is relatively well maintained. The cemetery is full within its original bounds
but was expanded north and south during the 1990s. The older part on the
cemetery contains dozens of unmarked and fieldstone marked graves. Several
markers are too old and eroded to read. This record was made December 26-27,
1993. Updated December 29, 1999 and April 5, 2002. The notes for marker
condition refer to the 1993 condition.
Mrs. Ella Franklin and Mrs. Ollie Faye Pirtle Rhodes recorded this
cemetery circa 1974. Their record appears in Henderson County, Tennessee
Cemetery Inscriptions (Memphis, R. H. Harris, 1976), Vol. II, pp. 468-486. This
earlier work is referred to as "Franklin and Rhodes" in the notes below.
