MURPHY CEMETERY

Located near the home of Mrs. Mae Murphy in the Mt. Carmel community, just off Highway 69 South. There are 7 graves, all unmarked. According to Mrs. Murphy the following persons are buried there:

 

Murphy, George Washington

Murphy, Martha Murphy — lived to be 101 years

Murphy, Jim

Murphy, Ann

Murphy, Marie — wife of Milt Murphy

2 small Murphy children

 

George and Martha were the grandparents of Noah Murphy (June 17, 1897-Nov. 23, 1973). Mrs. Mae is the widow of Noah. She is a lovely gracious hostess and a genteel lady. She is also a second cousin to the late President James K. Polk. Her father was Marion Austin Polk and he was the President's first cousin.

This cemetery was indexed by Blanche Tuten, Nancy Jones, and Margarett Alexander on April 10, 1976.
