DIXON CHAPEL CEMETERY

Located on the John Vise farm, east of Decaturville about 4 miles in a wooded lot. This graveyard has 50 or more sandstone markers but no names on any. Poor shape, fallen timber all around. Local citizens report this is a Negro graveyard.

This cemetery was indexed by Margarett Alexander on December 28, 1975. On July 31, 1976 Faustina McElrath was interviewed by telephone. She states this graveyard was called Dixon Chapel — one person she knows that was buried there was Jennie Yarbro. Mr. Grady Dixon stated a church was in back of the farm, graveyard was near springs which was sulphur, so cemetery could be called Dixon Chapel or Sulphur Springs. Thanks to my friend Sarah Vise for serving as a guide to this graveyard.
