SPENCE CEMETERY
This is a well-maintained cemetery on Spence Store Road in northern Decatur County. The cemetery is indicated on the U.S.G.S. Sugar Tree quadrangle (1986) as an unnamed cemetery immediately west of State Highway 69 about a mile south of the interchange of TN 69/U.S. 641 and I-40. There are 10 fieldstone-marked graves and about 10 unmarked graves. David Donahue recorded this cemetery May 5, 1997; checked and updated it February 17, 2002; and updated it December 25, 2003.
Margarett Alexander and Blanche Tuten recorded this cemetery on April 2, 1978. Their record appears in Decatur County, Tennessee Cemetery Records published by the Captain Daniel A. Wesson Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Parsons, Tennessee, 1984, pp. 567-570. They noted "at least 20 unmarked graves." This is referred to as the UDC transcription in notes below.
