MT. LEBANON CEMETERY

Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, 1997

Mt Lebanon Cemetery, indicated on the U.S.G.S. Perryville quadrangle (1986), is located at Mt. Lebanon United Methodist Church, east of Decaturville. It is an old cemetery for the area. The exact age of the cemetery is difficult to guess because at some time the fieldstones were replaced by concrete blocks. On the other hand, this probably is why Mt. Lebanon seems to have avoided the reuse problems being experience at other large, old cemeteries in the area. Probably only half of the graves here have markers with names.

David Donahue recorded Mt. Lebanon Cemetery December 26, 1991; updated it May 17, 1997; and checked and updated it January 29, 2004. Margarett Alexander and Blanche Tuten recorded Mt. Lebanon Cemetery May 24, 1977. Their record appears in Decatur County, Tennessee Cemetery Records published by the Captain Nathaniel A. Wesson Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Parsons, Tennessee, 1984, pp. 353-365. Reference is made to their work where appropriate. Alexander and Tuten note "at lease 212 unmarked graves."
