HAWKES CEMETERY

Hawkes Cemetery is located on the south side of Evanstown Road northwest of the Bible Hill community. It is indicated northwest of Bible Hill on the U.S.G.S. Parsons quadrangle (1986). The cemetery is well maintained. However, its age is difficult to determine. The oldest remaining markers are arrayed around a large open area in the center. Were there fieldstones here at one time?

David Donahue recorded Hawkes Cemetery December 27, 1992; checked it in 2002; and updated it July 6, 2004. Margarett Alexander, Blanche Tuten, and Bobbie Bartholomew recorded Hawkes Cemetery on June 23, 1976. Their record appears in Decatur County, Tennessee Cemetery Records produced by the Nathaniel A. Wesson Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Parsons, Tennessee, 1984, pp. 252-253. This is referred to as "Alexander et al." in the notes below. They noted 12 unmarked graves.
