G. W. SHINAUTT, nephew of John Shinautt, formerly of Shelby Co., Tenn. and Walter Shinautt, Fayette Co., Tenn., was in a small boat on the Mississippi River, February 25, 1840, when waves from a steamboat overturned it, to which he clung until he couldn't and was drowned.

Funeral of Hon. THADDEUS BETTS, U. S. Senator from Connecticut was held in Washington, D. C., April 8, 1840 [Betts, born Feb. 4, 1789, died April 7, 1840, served in U. S. Senate, March 4, 1839 until his demise.]

INFORMATION WANTED. WILLIAM MEADOR moved from Morgan Co., Ga. to Tenn., fall 1823; his wife, Jane or Jincey, died the following winter. Meador left his children, John T. and Elizabeth Meador, with relatives and moved to Dallas Co., Ala. where he died August 1824. The children's grandfather, John Meador, had died leaving them "a share in his estate" and their present whereabouts were needed. Contact, Ira Meador, Liberty Hill, Ala.

WILLIAM COLTART, a young man living in Franklin, Tenn. was wounded "in open day" on Shelbyville and Winchester Road by ZEBULON PAYNE, Bedford Co., Tenn., June 14, 1840; his throat had been cut for his money. He was a stepson of Daniel Cameron.

The WIFE of WILLIAM BROWN, farmer Huntington Co., Pa., their daughter and four sons were found dead, murdered, on the farm "a few days ago." Brown was a suspect in these terrible murders.

Congress, from S.C., 1789-1793; 1797-1801; U. S. Senate, 1801-1810]

MARY M. NEWTON daughter of James and Sarah P. Sample; granddaughter of Major Hugh McVay; born April 15, 1820; joined Methodist Church, 1834; died August 31, 1840; her child died May 16, 1840.

JAMES McFERRIN born Washington Co., Va., March 22, 1784; married Jane Berry, March 21, 1804; moved that year to Rutherford Co., Tenn.; served in the Creek war and the War of 1812; licensed to preach in Methodist Church, Sept. 14, 1831 [1821]. as a Methodist local preacher; entered the itinerant ministry in November 1823 and filled several appointments; moved to Tipton Co., Tenn. in fall 1823; off and on itinerant, he located in 1840. He had written, "Up to October 15th 1839 I have preached 2088 sermons, baptized 573 adult persons, 814 infants..." He died September 3, 1840.

WILLIAM G. DAVIDSON born N.C. about 1829; moved to Tenn.; licensed to preach in Methodist Church, 1840 and labored in the Tennessee Conference where he died recently; a tribute to his memory by a group of Methodist preachers dated November 4, 1842.

SAMUEL L. WALKER born Bibb Co., Ala., but reared in Shelby Co., Ala.; died Bibb Co., Ala., Sept. 27, 1842 aged 23 years.

SALENDO A. BUGG born July 25, 1818; died Oct. 1, 1842.

ELICH NICHOL born Davidson Co., Tenn., 1805; Moscow, Ky. merchant; married in 1836; died in Moscow, November 1, 1842.

ALMON HERRING died Nov. 5, 1842 in the 35th year of his age.

COSA EARNEST wife of Sartain Earnest; daughter of John and Nancy McWilliams; born Warren Co., Ky., 1805; moved with parents to north Alabama; moved to Lowndes Co., Miss. and in 1838 to Choctaw Co., Miss. where she died Aug. 28, 1842.

SARAH T. ELLIOTT daughter of Rev. Thomas S. Elliott, died Stewart Co., Tenn., Nov. 5, 1842 aged 17 years, 11 months [1825].

WINNEYFRED MOORES born Camden, S.C., 1768/69; daughter of William Whitaker; moved to Ky., thence to Smith Co., Tenn., 1800; her husband died in 1812 leaving her with nine children. She died Dec. 3, 1842; buried in Nashville, Tenn.

JOHN HARVEY RICE youngest son of John and Nancy Rice; born Wilson Co., Tenn., April 17, 1819; died Dec. 6, 1842.

PATIENCE H. RICE daughter of John and Nancy Rice, born Wilson Co., Tenn., Mar. 19, 1811; married James Rice, August 30, 1829; died Sept. 30, 1842; six children.

"My Mother" (so wrote Joseph Carl), PHEBE CURL wife of Jacob Curl, died Williamson Co., Tenn., Oct. 12, 1842 in the 74th year of her age.

Reverend J. B. GOODBY, native of western Va.; moved to Wayne Co., Tenn., 1817; a Methodist preacher who died in Fayette Co., Tenn., Oct. 3, 1842.

THOMAS CARTER born Va., Mar. 15, 1766; died Oct. 16, 1842.

ELIZABETH MINSKEPE born Pa.; moved to western Va., 1832; died Oct. 4, 1842 aged 101 years.

ELIZABETH M. WILSON only daughter of Richard Herbert (dec), Williamson Co., Tenn.; married S. D. Wilson, 1828; moved to Texas, 1840, where she died Sept. 1, 1842. Her daughter, MARGARET REBECCA, died Oct. 1, 1842 aged 5 years. Her son, CHARLES, died Oct. 10, 1842 in the 13th year of his age.
