Rev. RICHARD M. MANLY son of Rev. James M. and Mary A. Manly born near Petersburg, Va., April 4, 1831; died Brinkley, Ark., Oct. 2, 1903; reared in Fayette Co., Tenn.; married Margaret G. Durham (died May 13, 1892), Sept. 7, 1854; 5 children of whom Bascom and Brownlow had died; the others were Mrs. Maggie Folsom, C. Boswell Manly, Rev. I. B. Manly. He had been a Methodist preacher since early 1880s. White River Conference; died Sept. 2, 1903.

CAROLINE WERT, nee Cowan, born Mar. 6, 1820; married Michael Wert, Moulton, Ala. merchant; died Oct. 22, 1903; of her children, 2 sons and 4 daus. had predeceased her.

I. G. JACKSON born Wilson Co., Tenn., Jan. 5, 1831; married Alice Gray, Mar. 16, 1858; died Muhlenburg, Ky., Oct. 4, 1903; 6 children.

JOHN T. CALLOM son of Rev. T. S. Callom died west Nashville, Jan. 3, 1904 aged 31 years.

General JAMES B. LONGSTREET, celebrated Confederate officer, died Gainesville, Ga., Jan. 2, 1904 aged 84 years.

ARCHELAUS H. MITCHELL, DD, born about one mile from Athens, Ga., Oct. 15, 1807; died Summerfield, Ala., Oct. 2, 1903; graduate, University of Ga., 1828; began active Methodist ministry in 1831 and so acted until his retirement in 1890; labored in Ga., S.C., Fla. and Alabama; became president of Centenary College in Summerfield in 1843 and was so for fourteen years and later when the college failed he helped to convert it into an orphanage.

MARY BARCLAY RIZER, nee Harrison, born Texas, April 20, 1826; married E. R. Rizer (died July 29, 1889), Nov. 4, 1845; 1 son, 10 daus.; died Russellville, Ky., Dec. 16, 1903.

Dr. RICHARD W. S. MARTIN son of William C. and Charlotte R. Martin born Chesterfield Co., Va., July 25, 1841; died Lauderdale Co., Tenn., July 16, 1903; graduate, University of Virginia; served in Confederate army; married M. V. Posey only child of William and Mary Posey. Surviving were his widow and daughter, Mrs. J. B. Alston and granddaughter, Virginia Alston.

IRVIN JONES son of Enoch and Mary Jones born Warren Co., Tenn., Nov. 29, 1825; entered the Methodist ministry; ordained deacon, Oct. 27, 1850; ordained elder, Oct. 17, 1852; married Elizabeth E. Price (died April 24, 1886), July 12, 1852 and moved to Texas in 1854; most subsequent years were spent in Utopia, Texas. Children: Sarah M., Charles S., Mary E., George W. and Thomas E. He died Sept. 20, 1903.

FRANCES BULLOCK born Logan Co., Ky., Mar. 13, 1817; married (1) S. F. Morse (died June 26, 1863), June 19, 1838; (2) J. W. Bullock (died Sept. 12, 1900), Nov. 11, 1867; died July 23, 1903 in Mayfield, Ky.

ELIZABETH HOPKINS widow of G. A. Hopkins born Feb. 27, 1822; died Dec. 19, 1903; married Dec. 19, 1838.

Reverend BENJAMIN FRANKLIN WHITE, Little Rock Methodist Conference, native of Franklin, Tenn., died in Alexandria, La., Jan. 6, 1904; burial in Pineville Cemetery,; served in Mexican War; entered the Methodist ministry in Tennessee; transferred to Louisiana in 1857; was frequently a presiding elder; married three times. Children were Horace H. White and Sallie Wynn White of Alexandria. Brothers were Dr. Thomas B. White and Henry O. White. Sister, Mrs. M. M. Harper, Opelousas.

GEORGE T. HOAGLAND born Elizabeth, New Jersey, Feb. 14, 1814; died St. Joseph, MO, Oct. 30, 1903; moved to Boonville, MO about 1838; moved to St. Joseph in 1852; married Nannie Gale, Feb. 2, 1842; contributor to Central College.

KATIE MAY HEARON born Oct. 12, 1894; died July 23, 1903. ORRIN GLADSTONE HEARON born July 27, 1898; died Aug. 4, 1903. GLADIS HAMILTON HEARON born Nov. 14, 1896; died Aug. 27, 1903; children of Luther and Bettie Hearon of Montgomery Co., Mississippi.

MATILDA J. CARRICK born July 1826; died Sparta, Tenn., Dec. 7, 1903 in residence of son-in-law, Dr. Snodgrass.

TOBIE LESTER MARTIN son of Rev. B. T. and Dora B. Martin died Dec. 21, 1903 aged 7 years; burial at Glen's Chapel.

ALICE ARDELL HOGE daughter of J. K. P. and Rebecca Barron born Turkey Cove, Lee Co., Va., Nov. 21, 1876; married L. L. Hoge, June 29, 1893 and moved to Austin, Texas; children were Lillian Loraine, Welton Barron, dec., Willie Hampton. She died Feb. 2, 1903.

Reverend ANGUS DOWLING died Daleville, Ala., Jan. 8, 1904; married Nov. 7, 1865; 9 children, 7 surviving him: Dr. Oscar, Bascom, Marvin, Mattie, Annie, Noel and Gussie. Died in Ozark, Ala.

MATTIE M. ABSTON wife of Henry L. Abston born near the Hermitage [home of Andrew Jackson], Oct. 30, 1847; died Ft. Worth, Texas, Dec. 18, 1903; married August 29, 1867; Presbyterian; 4 daus., 1 son.

CHARLES EDGAR MECOY son of Rev. W. J. and Maggie MeCoy born Huntingdon, Tenn., Oct. 22, 1889; died Union City, Tenn., Nov. 9, 1903.

FIDELIA CAROLINE MOORE daughter of James and Fidelia Forgey born Maury Co., Tenn., Sept. 25 1829; died Williamsport, Tenn., Dec. 28, 1903; married R. H. Moore, Dec. 23, 1855; 3 daus., 3 sons.

FANNIE ELIZABETH LONG born Montgomery Co., Tenn., Mar. 29, 1835; married Thomas Leonard Cooke, Feb. 22, 1859; two sons, dec.; daughters, Mrs. W. B. Edwards and Mrs. E. C. Harrelson. She died Dec. 22, 1903.

STELLA HICKS PARK daughter of Joseph Hicks born Searcy, Ark., Nov. 17, 1875; married S. P. Park, 1899; died Sept. 20, 1903.

ROBERT EARLE BLACK born Stanton, Tenn., July 4, 1877; died Memphis, Tenn., Oct. 9, 1903 son of W. F. and Sallie Coppedge Black; married Louise Miller, May 3, 1900; 1 dau., 2 years old.

Dr. LYCURGUS DICKSON died Desha, Ark., Jan. 14, 1904 aged 76 years; native of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; reared by his grandfather, Hon. Thomas Lannom; graduate, Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia; surviving were his widow and 6 children; burial in Batesville, Ark.

Mrs. MARGARET JONES HELSABACK died Dec. 18, 1903 aged nearly 96 years; nearly 57 years wife of Rev. S. W. Helsaback, Western N.C. Methodist Conference.

Dr. D. W. BARTON died Bamberg, S.C., January 20, 1904.

Bishop THOMAS UNDERWOOD DUDLEY, Leeville, Ky., Episcopalian, died in New York, Jan. 23, 1904.

MARY ROBINSON McAFFEE, nee Tarver, born Richmond Co., Ga., 1835; oldest daughter of Judge Etheldred Tarver; moved with parents near to Dalton, Ga.; married Dr. J. R. McAffee, May 1853; lived in Dalton; she and her son both died Dec. 31, 1903; a daughter, May, survived.

MARY ELIZA PAINE born Huntsville, Ala., Jan. 4, 1820; daughter of Dr. Millwater, first president of LaGrange College; married Rev. Robert Paine, later a Bishop of the Methodist Church; moved about 1848 to Aberdeen, Miss.; died Jan. 2, 1904; 2 daus., 2 sons.

MATTIE LEE HARGIS, nee Smith, born Jackson Co., Tenn., Mar. 28, 1874; married John H. Hargis, Jan. 13, 1892; died near Granville, Tenn., Dec. 21, 1903.

ANDREW GREGORY GANAWAY born Wythe Co., Va., Dec. 29, 1825; died Florence, Texas, Nov. 6, 1903; moved with parents to Talladega Co., Ala. in 1827; served in the Mexican War; married Margaret O. Whittenburg, Jan. 27, 1852 and moved the next fall to Texas; 5 children survived him; two others, Norvel and Susan Ella had predeceased him.

SALLIE ALLEN ROGERS born near Iuka, Miss., Aug. 3, 1846; daughter of Nat Allen; married John Jameson Rogers, Nov. 18, 1868; wife and mother; Tupelo, Miss.; died Oct. 11, 1903.

PRESLEY MEGUIAR born Robertson Co., Tenn., April 25, 1847; became a druggist in 1847; a Confederate veteran; later senior member of Meguiar and Harris Co., tobacco warehousers, Louisville, Ky.; married (1) Miss Curd (died 1873); (2) Mrs. Mary Ray White; he died Feb. 12, 1904. [Obituary re-appeared in March 24 issue, noting additionally that Meguiar had married Mrs. Mary White, Feb. 3, 1876; reference to beautiful residence he had built in Mt. Sterling, Ky.]

Miss ELIZABETH MORGAN born in Wales; came with family to Syracus, New York in childhood; about 1855 she moved south and taught school; most of her teaching was in east Tenn. but she had also taught in Columbia and Nashville, Tennessee; died in Knoxville, Tenn., January 4, 1904.

JOHN HARRISON RUCKER one of seventeen children of Benjamin A. and Mary Rucker, Wilson Co., Tenn.; born Oct. 24, 1846; died Jan. 10, 1904. Confederate veteran.

MARY ELIZABETH SANDERS wife of Drewry S. Sanders born Simpson Co., Ky., Sept. 11, 1827; died Franklin, Ky., Mar. 5, 1904; daughter of Stephen T. Barnes and wife; married Nov. 16, 1848.

JOHN ANDERSON JOHNSTON born N.C., Aug. 4, 1843 and moved with his parents to Ripley, Tenn. in 1849; son of Rev. George L. Johnston; married M. L. Wilson; 9 children. Steward in Ripley Methodist Church for many years.

FINLEY J. BRADUCK born Morgan Co., Ohio, April 9, 1852; died Feb. 21, 1904; married Alice Summers, Dec. 1881; 4 children.

Sir HENRY MORTON STANLY, famed African explorer, died of pleurisy and heart trouble, May 10, 1904; he wanted to be buried at his homeplace, Furze Hill in Surry, England but because of his celebrity he was to be buried in Westminster Abbey in London. His parentage and birthplace were unknown; had worked himself to an elevated place in society through his natural talents and energy.

Miss MYRTLE PHILLIPS daughter of Mrs. G. W. Tucker born near Brentwood, Tenn., Dec. 27, 1881; died in west Nashville, Tenn., April 17, 1904.

MARIA ELIZABETH ELLIOTT wife of Thomas H. Elliott, Lafayette, Ky., died April 16, 1904; daughter of Dr. D. G. and Elizabeth Tuck; had been married 48 years.

Reverend COURTLAND PRENTISS SMITH born Boyd Co., Ky., March 1, 1870; oldest child of Rev. Joseph and Virginia William Smith; his paternal ancestors came to American on the Hopewell in 1634; his father moved to West Va. in 1873; he married Frances Griffith, May 9, 1900; one child, Prentiss Lanier Smith; he was a Methodist preacher; died Clarendon, Ark., April 13, 1904; burial in Minden, La.

Children: John Edward and Henry Carr (twins), Ida, wife of Rev. Joshua Harrison; Joseph Lucien; Jessie Lee, wife of Prof. H. W. South; he moved to Texas in 1884. Siblings were Rev. Joseph H. Prichett, MO Conference; Mrs. Julia Williams, Mrs. Martha Ewin and Carr Waller Prichett (who was the oldest of ten children).

Reverend DANIEL TOOLE born Christianburg, Ky., 1822; moved with parents to Alston, Ill. and then to Andrew Co., MO; he went to Oregon; married Lyda Rockwood, 1851; moved to Bloomington, MO in 1868 where he died May 20, 1904.

MILTON AKIN born Maury Co., Tenn., nearly 70 years ago; married Harriet Groomes, 1852 and moved to Louisville, Ky.; moved to Texas in 1893; died there, in Oak Cliff, Mar. 11, 1904. Son, Rev. F. L. Akin and another son, J. W. Akin. Daus., Mrs. T. F. Edminston and Mrs. J. M. Mosley.
