ROWLAND CEMETERY
(Refer from page 14)

Interview, Jonathan Smith with Lucy Walker Sisco, widow off Howard Sisco, Camden, Tenn., April 17, 2002. Mrs. Sisco was born October 2, 1921, raised in Bruceton near this cemetery and attended the school located here for years. She remembered passing this cemetery and the one tombstone she recalled frequently, to and from school and during recess. The old brick school built in the late 1920s stood closer to U.S. Highway 70 than its successor does, especially after the highway (U.S. 70) was broadened along here late in the 1940s. She recalled that the burial area was located further up the slope from the highway, from what is now the east entrance to the "new" school. She stated that hers was a vivid memory of the tombstone she recalled here as standing under a tree and the first name of the person on the tombstone was SARAH and that she died in 1864. She could not recall the woman's last name. It is likely the cemetery is located under the front parking area of the present school or just behind the parking area.

BLEDSOE CEMETERY #2

The graves here are lost, with grading having been done. The following is the only tombstone the compiler found here:

THOMPSON CEMETERY

According to Gordon B. Grooms (born 1923), who took the compiler to the site of this cemetery, he had a life-time knowledge of this graveyard as he was reared in that community. Sometime in the 1980s, a former landowner, now deceased, had workers remove the tombstones and bases completely and cast them into a hole and covered them up. Vinca marks the site now. Fortunately the data had been copied from the tombstones and these appear in CARROLL COUNTY CEMETERY RECORDS by the Carters, 1981, page 1028. Those relevant to this publication are given below.

Located about .1 mile south of Grooms Road, formerly U.S. Highway 70, from a point on this road about .6 mile of its juncture with the new U.S. Highway 70 (laid through here about 1951). It is in the woods slightly south in the southeast corner of Grooms Road and Bobbitt Road.
