SOME LOST BLACK BURIAL PLACES

At a point in the 19505, GEORGE BLANTON (Mr. Blanty) HOLLADAY (1873-1968) of Camden compiled a long list of black and white burial places in Benton County. Most of these are "lost" as there were no tombstones at any of these gravesites and the people who informed Mr. Holladay of their location are also deceased. Other than those cemeteries already identified, Holladay listed:

Civil District 4:
A slave graveyard near Camp's old store, on O. L. Bawcum tract

Civil District 5:
Two black graves on the Dr. F. G. Hudson tract
One black grave about halfway between James Bedwell and Rushing Creek Church

Civil District 6:
Three-four graves of blacks on William Rayburn's tract

Civil District 12:
One black near Horace Watson's line

Civil District 13:
One black grave at old Pine Hill, H. D. Odle tract
