JOHNSON, JONES
Searching for the ancestors of Isabella JOHNSON (b. 1855 MS) and hermother Melinda JONES (b. MS). Isabella (African American, possiblymullato) had thirteen children by Thomas Emmitt JOHNSON (white b.1849 d. after 1920), who was the oldest of William and Margaret TateJOHNSON of Fayette County, Tennessee. Some of Thomas and Isabella'schildren's names were William, Ella, Luther, Brady, Cassie, Pinkney,Melinda, Fannie. Oela, Eliza and more. Thomas' family was fromold-line Virginia (Louisa, Co.) families of COCKE, JOHNSON andHOLLAND - and I can trace back to Richard JOHNSON and Richard COCKEin the 1600's. Need help on the women and would welcome info on thechildren. After his death the children were kicked off the land andhouse. Some settled in Oklahoma (Enid); Massachussetts (Boston);Memphis & Whiteville, TN ; Chicago & New York to name a few cities.

SHELTON, CHILTON
SHELTON/CHILTON. Thomas Shelton, Jr. (26 May 1763, Va. - 20 August,1857 Brandon, Miss.) is believed to have married (1st) SarahBARKSDALE, then (2nd) possibly [Sarah or Susan] HEWLITT or HULLETT asclaimed in a DAR application, though this seems unlikely, then (3)Phebe Ann Hatcher MARSHALL, widow of Peter COUSINS, in 1809 inHalifax Co., Va., then (4) Sarah CRUMP in 1834 in Franklin Co., Va.. He raised and married off most of his children in Pittsylvania Co.,Va., before following a son-in-law to Rankin Co. Miss, where he dieda widower at age 94, naming twelve children in his will. The family monument to Thomas Shelton, Jr. at Brandon, Mississippihas on one of its sides a listing for a man believed to be hisfather: "THOMAS SHELTON 1742 - 1846 AMERICAN REVOLUTION 1777 - 17811ST LT. VIRGINIA," possibly the Thomas Shelton who rose to that rankin the Louisa Co., Va. militia, and fought in the Battle of Camdenunder Capt. John BYERS. Family lore says the elder Thomas Sheltonmarried a CLOPTON girl
