Looking for the parents of WILLIAM AND HANDY DeSHIELDS. About1838-1840, WILLIAM DeSHIELDS and MARY ELIZABETH McBRIDE DeSHIELDSleft Beach Grove, Tennessee headed for Oregon. It is known he hadtwo brothers who may have left with him or followed soon after. Theyare HANDY DeSHIELDS and JOHN DeSHIELDS. It is believed there mayhave been a DANIEL DeSHIELDS and his family and FRANCES ELIZABETHDeSHIELDS who was unmarried. These last two have not been proven. Williams son< Jasper was born in Beach Grove, Tn in 1838. The familyappeared on the Marion County, Arkansas census in 1840. If anyonehas any information on how to research these names in Tennessee,please let me know. In the 1840 census in Arkansas the name wasspelled DASHELL. HANDY DeSHIELDS married NANCY WAMACK who isbelieved to be daughter of David WAMACK. DAVID was said to be fullblood Indian and possibly a guide for the army. MATTHEWS

I am looking for the following names in Stewart County, Perry HarveyMATTHEWS (1822-1857), James (Calvin?) MATTHEWS (1785-90-1844),Elizabeth McNICHOLS (1831-1854, father William). Perry and Elizabethwere married 20 Jan 1848 in Stewart Co., by William BELL. Jamesbought land in Stewart Co. in the 1820's and 30's. James is thoughtto have had a brother that lived in Henry Co., by the name of JohnLeRoy and was murdered by his grandson Jimmy. James is thought to bethe father of Perry Harvey, Robert Calvin (of Benton Co. 1850 census. Married to Nancy Jane MIZZELL.), and C. Marshall. Are any of thesenames familar to you. I have later info that I can share. Thisfamily originate in Ballynure, County Antrim, Ireland in 1722. Familyhistory says they built their own boat and came to Greensboro, NC in1722. The orginial ancestor was Perry Micheal MATTHEWS.
