I am curious about relatives known to be in
East Tennessee aroundKnox Co.and Blount Co. in the pre-1796 time
frame. Jeremiah JEFFREYand wife Sarah BISHOP were known to be in this
area but it is notclear how soon before 1796 they came. Jeremiah
JEFFREY was a Capt.in the Knox Militia in 1799. I understand that a
census was takenfor the Territory South of the Ohio in 1795 and that
approximately77,000 were in the Territory. It was composed of returns
from thevarious Sheriffs of the counties in the Territory.
