HUGHES, WOODS

I am researching the WOODS and HUGHES families that settled inSullivan County, along the South Holston in the 1780s or 1790s. William HUGHES was granted land from N. Carolina in 1782 along theHolston but I don't know if he ever actually lived there. Hisdaughter Elizabeth HUGHES purchased part of this land in 1796 at asheriff's sale. She married my 4g-grandfather, John WOODS, about1798. I am hoping to trace both these families to where they werebefore coming to Tennesse. Thanks for any help.

LYNN, LINN, HICKS, DICKSON

I am searching for information on my g-g-grandfather, Absolam NewtonLYNN or LINN, b. 11 Nov 1840, d. ?, married Mary Ann HICKS, b. 29 Jul1837(?) Her father was Daniel HICKS, b. ?, d. June 1865 in McMinn Co.Newton LYNN's father was James LINN b. abt 1785 (No death date) andmarried to Nancy DICKSON 10 Sept 1836. James LINN's father wasWilliam LINN, b. abt. 1753 and might have fought in the RevolutionayWar. We believe he might have came from N. Ireland or Scotland. Iknow that Newton LYNN was a Private in the 2nd Tenn Mounted Infantry,Co. A and was captured at Rogersville, Tenn on 6 Nov. 1863 along with608 others. They were sent to Belle Isle and Andersonville prisons. Only 149 of them survived imprisonment and my g-g-grandfather NewtonLynn was one of them. Any information, including letters, diaries, pictures, or other documents on any of the above would be greatlyappreciated. Thank you!
