Organized at Camp Trenton, Dec. 1861 from companies of West Tennessee men enrolled in Nov. and Dec.; Was in Battle of Shiloh; reorganized 8 May 1862 as part of the 2nd Consolidated TN Inf. Reg. Co. D; in Gen. Kirby Smith's invasion of KY and suffered many days of hard marching; present at the battle of Perryville, but possibly not engaged in fighting; battles of Murfreesboro, Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, Atlanta campaign and Johnston's return to Tennessee, retreat to North Carolina; Captain James R. Oliver of I Company assumed command of the consolidated 11th, 12th, 13th, 29th, 47th, 50th, 52nd and 154th regiments in March of 1865; paroled at Greensboro NC 2 May 1865. Companies composed of Obion County Men: Co. A, Co. H, Co. I. |

Orginially the 2nd Tennessee Cavalry Regiment organized June 1862, reorganized June 1863 and May 1864; consolidated Feb. 1865 with the 21st; paroled May 1865 as the 21st and 22nd Consolidated Regiments. In North Mississippi most of the war; came under the command of Major General N. B. Forrest, 26 January 1864, assigned to Bell's Brigrade, remained there until the war ended; with Forrest at Tishomonigo Creek (Brice's Crossroads) 20-22 February, 1864; took part in the capture of Fort Pillow 12 April 1864; in the Middle Tennessee raid of September 1864; in invasion of Tennessee in November 1864 under General Hood; withdrew into Mississippi after battle of Nashville. |
Muster List, Dec. 1861-62-Feb 1862. Also known as "Alexander Guards" and named for Major R.B. Alexander of the Mexican War, this unit was organized in May 1861 and attached for a while to Cheatham's Brigade. Most of the men were from Obion County and just over line in Kentucky. Roland (Terry) Shelton tells more about the company. |
