Many friends are grieved to learn of the death of First Lt. Mike Callahan, son of County Supt. H.L. Callahan, who was killed in action in Germany on Apr. 7.  Lt. Callahan was with the Seventh Army.  He was a brother of Mrs. Frank Horton and Mr. Edgeman Callahan, both of Knoxville, Mrs. Ed Stone of Big Stone Gap, Va., and Miss Cornelia Callahan, teacher in Tellico Plains High School.  Mike was a graduate of Madisonville High School and of Hiwassee College, and in 1942 he was graduated from University of Tennessee.  He volunteered for military service on June 19, 1942, and went overseas on April 26, 1943.   He fought in North Africa, Southern France and Germany.

LT. CALLAHAN IS KILLED IN GERMANY

First Lt. Michael C. Callahan, U-T engineer graduate and son of Monroe County Schools Supt. H.L. Callahan, Madisonville, was killed in action somewhere in Germany April 7, Mr. Callahan has been notified by the War Department.  Lt. Callahan was 26.

Lt. Callahan, with a reserve commission, entered the Army upon graduation from U-T in 1942.  A combat engineer, he went overseas more than a year ago and had participated in the American drive into Germany.

Relatives here include a brother, Edgemond P. Callahan, Wright Switch Road, of the U-T Farm., and a sister, Mrs. Frank Horton, Fountain City.
