Danny’s letter and funeral arrangements:

“To whom it may concern”

I lived on this here climate for 20 years, the first 19 were full of excitement and pleasure; then it happened, I got drafted into the Army and sent to Vietnam to fight a useless war.  With God’s help, I’ll make it to Heaven.  I’ve spent my time in Hell.  Take heed Dear Friends, I died needlessly, along with a lot of my comrades.  But I did my best.  This is a cruel world that we live in.  Even though I consider myself the luckiest guy that ever lived, because of you, my many friends and relatives and because I had the greatest Mom and Dad in the world.  Goodbye for now, we’ll meet again though.  On that great Judgement morning.  May God Bless and keep all of us and bring Everlasting Peace.

Danny R. Roberts.

Danny included in his letter his own funeral arrangements along with parting words.

Pallbearers:  Ed Rowland, Tom Cole, Ronnie Cain, Mike Poteet, Joe Millsaps, Hubert Williams, Gene Smith and John Scoggins.

Flower Maidens: Debbie Morgan, Linda Duckett, Linda Rowland, Nina Sue Bates, Clara Garren, Gail Cain, Joan Rogers, and Linda Scoggins.

No military funeral.  Some old timey songs sung.  Pastor Milford Fullbright and Patrick Steward.  Dennis Bordwine Funeral Home.  Be kept at home. Please.  Buried at Shady Grove Graveyard.

My last wish, please let it be done, Goodbye Mom and Dad.  Goodbye my dear friends.  I loved you all so much.  This ain’t the end, it’s only the beginning.  I leave you with sorrow and a few regrets.  See you all again with God’s Help.

Son of Mr. & Mrs. Howard Roberts.  He graduated from McMinn Central High School in 1967.
