He was the son of Richard Spencer Marshall b 8 Dec 1837 Tellico Plains, Monroe County, TN d 26 Jan 1901 Karnes County, TX and his wife Sarah Caroline Blanton b 8 Dec 1841 Monroe County, TN d 12 Mar 1914 Karnes County, TX.

William, or Bill as he was known, married Carrie Tabb on 20 Jun 1886 in Webberville, Travis County, TX. Carrie Tabb (adopted name) was born 7 Oct 1869 in Blakely, Early Co., GA and died 23 Sep 1957 in San Antonio, Bexar County, TX. Both William and Carrie are buried in the Runge Cemetery, Runge, Karnes County, TX.
