Monroe County is located in East Tennessee, neighbors with Polk, McMinn, Loudon, Roane,
and Blount Counties in Tennessee, Cherokee and Graham Counties North Carolina.
It was formed in 1819 from lands of the Hiwassee District, lands previously
owned by the Cherokee Indians. Monroe County is 635 Sq. miles and the fifth largest County in
Tennessee.
