McReynolds says he was born in Monroe Co. 5 Dec 1846, that grandfather Robert McReynolds died Feb 1856, and that father Dr. Jehu or Hugh came up from Macon and took him and grandmother back to Macon, where he went to school, that in summmer of 1862 he came back to Madisonville to visit and there he enlisted in 37the Tenn. Reg. but in latter part of 1863 he was discharged because he was not 18, he went back to Macon, and enlisted later again in Marsenburgs Battery and went to Mobile; returned a partner in business, and later went to Dentistry School in Philadelphia.  A.T. Hicks, who was Co. Ct. Clerk or Deputy in 1854 testifies that Dr. Hugh did legit. R.E., A.T. Hicks also testifies that he took the important records, such as Wills, Estate Settlements etc, to his residence to save them from destruction by the Army.  Robert L. McReynolds, a Dentist of Louisville, Ky. says he is bastard son of Hugh McReynolds.  A Dentist of Macon, Ga. who died Monroe Co. 1876; was legitimateized in Monroe Co. in 1854 and was raised by Hugh.  Says reocrds of Legitimazation were destroyed by War but he can prove it.  Hugh McReynolds had no other children and he had bros. and sisters: 1. James a nonresident and he may be dead. 2. Isaac dec'd nonres. whose heirs are Robert A. McCallie, John M. McCallie, Miranda M. wife of Arthur C. Huffaker of Knox Co.  Hugh McReynolds was never married and was a son of Robt. McReynolds dec'd.  The McCallie say Robt. was son of a woman named Hicks who said she came from Ga. and who was taken in by Robt. McReynolds (the elder) and his wife not knowing child was by their son, and the old people raised Robt. E.  until he was grown.  But witnesses say Robert Hicks name was changed to Robert Edward McReynolds (name of old man) but that he was not legitmatized.  Dr. Hugh McReynolds real name was Jehu C. McReynolds.  Witness Saml. D. McReynolds is son of Isaac D. dec'd who d. in Ark. 1865 intestate and his children are: Saml. D. of Burtonville, Ark.; Felix C. of Saline Pass, Texas; Floyd M. of Pleasant Hill, Ark; Mary E. wife of Chas. Saunders of Van Sickle, Texas; and Shelby P. of Van Sickle, Texas; a daughter dec'd wife of F.Y. or F.G. Berry whose only children are Willie D. and Nora B. Berry minors of Hindsville, Ark.

R.M. dec'd whose children are Wm. W. and G.W. 7. Sarah Harrill dec'd whose children are George A. Harrill of Lebanon, Mo., Robert E., Sarah I., Nancy C. wife of A.J. Randolph, Polly Ann Barker dec'd whose only child is Joseph Barker, Sampson Harrill, and Franky McDaniel who has 3 children names unknown. 8. Nancy Williams dec'd whose children are Mary Ann Conway and Eliza J. Aker.

 

No.665) Filed 5 Sep 1877.  Aquilla Pressley, Gdn. of Rowland Mills et al vs Christina Phillips et al.  Richardson Mills while a soldier in US Army was killed about 7 Dec 1864 leaving Aquilla as his widow and 6 children namely: Rowland Mills, Martha Mills, Thomas Mills, Christina now wife of John Phillips, Jane now wife of John Giles, and Rufus Mills.  Aquilla bought land with pension money of the six minors, but when deed was made her then husband John Pressley, whom she married Jun 1868 in Monroe Co., persuaded her to have deed made to his children (not hers) namely Thomas, John, and Jehu Pressley.  As soon as deed was made he became cruel so that she left home and went west in 1873 and returned in 1876 to discover that John had gotten divorce and had remarried.  Pressley says Aquilla was drunkard and strumpet.
