OLD ST. PAUL LUTHERAN CEMETERY, Monroe Co. Tn.. Compiled by: Harless K. Brakebill Jr Jan. 1988 This cemetery was first laid out and used in 1820-21. Note the copy of deed of 1825 from county to the 1st trustees of Old St. Paul Church. Many of the early settlers in this, now Lakeside area, were of the German Reformed and Lutheran faith, as their ancestors who were early arrivals in America were from Germany, Switzerland, and France. A brief history of individuals on the Tombstones will be given if known. The early, (first) settlers, some of whom were Daniel Buck, Jacob Buck(Buch), John Gardiner, Peter Michaels, Henry and Jacob Kyle, Michael Gardner, Jacob and Henry Sheets, Abraham Buck, John and David Mowry, and Francis, John and Peter Moser. Around 1827-30, other families arrived, the Clemmers ca 1827, the Kisers, the Vinsants, the Gastons ca 1821, the Davis, the Brakebills, the Bowmans, the Cooks, the Summitts,the Shaffers and others, including Kinsers and Thomas. This area of Monroe Co. was in the old district 9, and included where Vonore now stands, Lower Bat Creek up to Acorn Gap Bridge at New Hope, etc. Note: This list in part is taken from the Ed McQueen list of 1975. so many thanks to this historian of Loudon and Monroe counties. Mosers as far as I know; a Lt. in the Continental Line in the Revolution, was at battles of Camden and was at York- town at surrender of Cornwallis, and other battles. The Veteran's Rev.
