Denton and Hicks Bible Record

The Denton children were children of John Jackson Denton, b. ca 1790, and Abigail Denton b. 1 March 1792. John Jackson and Abigail were cousins. John Jackson Denton is the son of Samuel Denton, 1758 – 1814, and Martha Denton b. 1760 (also cousins). Abigail is the daughter of John Denton, 1759 – 1842 and Mary Moore, 1766 -1850. Through the work of Carolyn Whitaker and others, it was found that Timothy Hicks married Martha Denton, daughter of John Denton and Mary Moore and sister of Abigail. Abigail and Martha are proved though their father who was in the Revolutionary War and gave their birthdates in his pension application. It is thought that Jackson and Abigail died in Cocke County leaving behind their children, whom Timothy Hicks and his wife Martha Denton Hicks raised. From the Bible you see the children of Timothy and Martha Hicks: David Hicks born 17 May 1827; Nancy Hicks b. 16 Aug 1829; and Martha Jo Hicks Dare b 24 August 1833.
