Index to the 1840 Meigs County, Tennessee Census

This was the first Meigs County Census since its formation in 1836. The handwriting was not perfect and you have to remember that spelling was not standardized until around 1900 so phonetics is the key. I did not index these because it is so important to know who the neighbors were. The neighbors were frequently close family, cousins, or in-laws.   (Bearacuda1)

Please use the find feature on your browser to find your family and remember those phonetics! If you have any questions on these, please email me at meigs@tngenweb.org
